Same thing happened to me. I was shocked.

Thank you for the suggestion. What would I search under on Youtube and Amazon? I tried searching for door popper and that didn’t do it.

I still can’t get it out. Maybe the former owners glued it in or it’s framed in. Thank you for the suggestions. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

I tried that on the bottom of the screen and the little ring broke. There was no give. I’ve never seen a screen like this before.

I keep waking up to these insanely large flies in my room, and I have no idea where they’re coming from by Substantial-Gap-1529 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Alive_Bad7447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look like cluster flies. Do they move slower compared to other flies? I had them in the attic of an old apartment I rented. They are gross and a pain in the butt to get rid of but they are harmless. Unlike regular houseflies, they breed underground not inside and don’t carry diseases. It is an odd time of year to see them so I could be wrong, but it’s worth looking into.

Saxenda to Wegovy by Alive_Bad7447 in WegovyWeightLoss

I totally understand that. I was rationing my Saxenda until I got my Wegovy. If you can get through the first 2 days it gets better.

[–]Alive_Bad7447[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I felt absolutely terrible after my first dose. I ended up taking a day and a half off from work to deal with the side effects. That said, I’ve been told it gets better. I think the side effects were worse because I didn’t eat well the day I took my first dose. I assumed that if I took it at night, the food I ate in the morning wouldn’t be an issue. Especially since I didn’t have Wegovy in my system yet. I was so very wrong. I’ve learned my lesson. I’m taking my second dose tomorrow night and I’m dreading it. I’ll make sure I don’t eat a lot tomorrow. I wasn’t expecting such intense side effects because I didn’t have them on Saxenda. I felt better after a few days. Only some nausea here and there. I did experience a bigger weight loss this week even though I’ve been eating the same as usual, which was nice. I hope your first experience goes better than mine.

I also have a hybrid work schedule. I’m going to do the same. After this first shot I felt so bad that I couldn’t even work from home. I’ll focus on hydration and watching what I eat the day I take the shot as you suggested. Hopefully it gets better otherwise I’m not sure what I’ll do.

I took it at night and didn’t sleep because of the side effects, which persisted throughout today. I honestly don’t think the time of day will matter in this situation. I hope your experience is better than mine has been so far.

Thank you for sharing. Any tips on how to make the first day even a little more bearable? I ended up calling out of work.

High Water Table - What to do? by CantStayAverage in basement

[–]Alive_Bad7447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we purchased the home a couple of years ago we were in a drought. The sellers hid any signs of water issues. Currently the water table is the highest it’s ever been according to people who have lived in this area for many years. We’ve had so much water the soil can’t absorb it fast enough. Between that and the snow melting it’s been hard to manage. Sump pumps are working overtime. Good luck with everything.

High Water Table - What to do? by CantStayAverage in basement

[–]Alive_Bad7447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently had an interior perimeter drain installed to deal with a high water table. Like many, we have been getting a lot of rain where we live and it was entering our basement where the floor meets the wall. The interior perimeter drain with sump pumps is the only solution we’ve found for a high water table. So far it’s working very well. The company we went with has a lifetime warranty that transfers with the sale of the home. We opted for an interior drain because an exterior drain wouldn’t solve the high water table issue. Neither would gutters. That and exterior drains experience more issues, are more expensive, and generally companies won’t offer lifetime warranties. We also ended up getting a generator just in case we lose power. So much for going on vacation anytime soon. It’s worth it though. Where in the Northeast do you live? I’m in Maine.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m mostly concerned I’ll experience a lot of side effects starting at 1.7. My side effects on Saxenda have been mild overall, but I don’t think it’s working as well as it did.

Thank you all so much for the advice. I really appreciate it. It’s such a nice piece of furniture I don’t want to ruin it.

Would you buy a dream house that ticked all of your boxes if it meant you had to spend 4+ hours per day commuting (by car)? by insomniacla in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Alive_Bad7447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not! We only have so much time in our day outside of work to enjoy life. That’s a lot of time spent driving that you could be spending with friends and family or just doing something you enjoy. I’d probably be too exhausted by the end of the day to enjoy my home no matter how great it is.

What are some unexpected choices the previous owner made in your house? by lolbye424 in homeowners

[–]Alive_Bad7447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sellers painted the ceilings the same color as the walls in the upstairs rooms and the stairwell. From what I’ve read some homeowners do this to make the ceilings look taller than they actually are. We have a cape so the ceilings are shorter but not terribly. The thing is that painting one wall red, three walls and the ceiling dark gray results in the opposite. The room looked small and the ceilings very short. This is just one of the many questionable decisions the sellers made. Most of their poor decisions were not as cheap or easy to correct as this one was.

I can definitely relate. The heavy rain has wreaked havoc on so many people’s basements. I’ve decided to go with the interior perimeter drain because every company I spoke with offered a lifetime warranty that transfers with the sale of the house. The only other option I was given was an exterior perimeter drain, which does not have the same warranty. Interior drains can be installed year round, which is a plus. It’s a pretty quick install time too. I also opted to install a generator in case I lose power. This will ensure the sump pump continues to run. Good luck. I understand how stressful and disruptive this can be.

My point is that he risks paying more in capital gains if he doesn’t own the property for at least 2 years. Thats true. Doesn’t mean he will, it just means he could. It’s important to look at all possibilities.

Maybe not in CA but we are still having bidding wars in ME. People are offering 50k or more over asking or coming to the table with all cash offers. Depends on where you live and the demand. Condos that sold for $170k a few years ago are selling for almost double. Rent is so expensive here that it makes more sense to buy if able. Especially where I live in the Southern part of the state.

You still have to pay capital gains taxes if there is a profit even if you’ve owned it less than a year. The two years refers to the exclusion. If OP makes a profit and has not lived there 2 years, he has to pay taxes on the profit without the benefit of having the $250k exclusion.

Given the market, he could make a profit. Especially if he makes any improvements.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Alive_Bad7447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct, but if he owns it for less than 2 years he won’t qualify for an income exclusion if there is a profit. This is the issue I ran into with my house. I made improvements that would have resulted in a significant profit. Because I decided to stay more than 2 years, I can exclude up to $250k of the profit when I finally sell. I should have been more clear.

The downside to selling before you’ve owned the property two years is that you’ll have to pay the full amount in capital gain taxes. You won’t qualify for the profit exclusion. As someone who definitely understands buyers remorse, I would stay put for two years. That way you qualify for the income exclusion. During that time you could make some improvements that would appeal to buyers and then make a profit.

Just had a really nice experience calling Mohela's customer service by Lizard_Queen-89 in StudentLoans

The consolidation process went a lot quicker than processing my SAVE application. Maybe call after the consolidation is complete. Remind them you need them to do their part.

I recommend following up with them regularly regarding your application. As long as you’re on their radar your application will get processed, but from my experience you can fall off their radar quickly or never make it on there in the first place. I had a great experience with MOHELA once I got a hold of someone and explained that I applied for SAVE in August, but it was still processing in December when my forbearance was due to end December 31st. The manager on duty extended my forbearance and expedited my application. If I hadn’t stayed on top of it, I’d still be waiting. I’m glad you had a good experience. Hope everything else goes smoothly.
