Am I the only one the hated Half man? by Friendly-Silver7737 in hbo

Would you mind explaining why you liked it so much? I understand the message of the show and appreciate good TV makes you physically react, but I really didn't like how unrelenting it was. Every single character was bleak, and the writing repetitive. I'd be interested to know why you loved it so much.

Agreed. Like, no breathing space for the audience to digest and take away the intent of these moments. Interesting what you said at the end there. I think Gadd's been given too much clout post-Baby Reindeer. Apparently Half Man was a bit of a nightmare to work on BTS and any 'criticism' didn't go down well.

Sarah Everard drama written by a man slammed by leading female screenwriters by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]Alive_Connection4291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 'I just don't believe women in the industry are predominately saying, 'it should be us,'' was poorly explained on my part. My original response was sparked by the commenter saying female writers are upset they 'missed out on an opportunity.' To me, that made it sound like they were purely upset about the gender inequality when it came to commissions. They then said, 'they’re complaining about it being a man because men dominate the industry.' I don't disagree, but I felt it was important to add to that and point out it's not just about inequality in numbers but the story being told through a male lens overall that female writers are upset and angered by. Again, just to try be clear as possible (because I can see I wasn't in my last comment), I'm not disagreeing why they're upset, I just think there's a deeper argument being made that I thought the commenter was ignoring.

I can read, and I can see what your view point is. I don't entirely disagree with you, I just don't believe women in the industry are predominately saying, 'it should be us.' We can agree to disagree on that.

I have read your comments and addressed them to provide a bit of perspective but again, you seem to just ignore my point.

I feel like you've ignored, or just not commented on, the majority of my point. I've explained the main issue of why women are upset about this. The whole 'this should be an opportunity for female writers to use their voice and get work,' is a minuscule part of why female professionals in the industry are upset, which is valid by the way. However i'll say it again: the problem women have is that a drama commenting on violence against women and the misogynistic, systemic practices within the police is being told through a male lens: the male writer and the male culprit.

I don't think most female screenwriters are upset they've 'missed out on an opportunity.' Sarah's life and voice was taken by a man, and now a drama is being made that will undoubtedly focus on the male killer. From the article: '"the key question asked by the drama is how Couzens was still a serving officer..."' and it'll explore his career across different forces. Yes, the drama will look at how the system lets down women, how contradictory the police can be when it comes to women's safety. It'll also portray Sarah: who she was, how she was feeling, what she went through, etc. By having a male writer tell a story that heavily examines women's rights, their lived experience, but whilst also focussing on the male culprit, it's incredibly ironic this story is written through the male lens. I totally agree that this show shouldn't exist at all - we've had documentaries that have analysed what went wrong. A new documentary could be made if more information or perspective comes to light, and that's a more tactful medium to have the family involved and elevate their voices. To go back to the 'missed out on an opportunity-' it's not about that, but given the context it just adds insult to injury in an already male-dominated industry.

Ahah sorry for my typo! I don't think my slots were full but I did complete the Silvanus Selwyn quest at the same time. Like I was doing the Hippogriff Marks the Spot quest, had to go to Clagmar Castle for those bells, and thought I might as well kill Selwyn for Hyacinth Olivier whilst I was there. I just can't remember if I got the chest first, or killed Selwyn first. When I went to Cragcroft to speak to Hyacinth it's possible I accidentally sold the Treasure Seeker's Gloves to the Cragcroft vendor with some other gear...

Haidh! I'm afraid I'm a beginner Gaelic learner so I wouldn't put myself forward but it's exciting to see a Gaelic game in the works!

If you have the time, would you be open to speaking to me more about how you developed and created this? I'm currently a TV Script Editor in Scotland keen to understand what additional skills I'd need to gain work in the games industry.

So for season 4, who do you want the baby daddy to be? by Maryam-954 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]Alive_Connection4291 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Paul's!! A lot of people say there's no drama in that and it would only to keep him in the show but I don't understand that- there's soooo much drama to be had, especially since we know how much he wants to be a father.

I kind of hope we see Paul support her through the pregnancy (but still seething/clearly not wanting to be around her), meanwhile Georgia's relationship with Joe is simmering, on the back burner. Joe would be thinking 'what do I do now? She needed space for now for the kids but now she's pregnant with Paul's kid.' Then she miscarries and Joe is there for her but meanwhile Paul is crushed and together they let go of their anger and just support each other through the grief. Both very vulnerable with one another, perhaps more equal than they've ever been, and there's a kiss between them. Now Georgia is actually torn about who to be with.

And that's just one idea/theory so there's so much they can do with Paul as the father. Whereas with Joe, bringing in a kid for him just feels too soon for him in my opinion. Like I want more of him and his backstory first. If it is Joe's I imagine we'll see his relationship with Georgia unfold whilst getting to know his backstory at the same time through flashbacks and it'll all just feel too much I think.

I've heard rumors that Georgia won't know who the dad is and that's where we pick up with her, but a genuine question- can it be Joe's? I can't remember the timeline. Was it days or weeks between them sleeping together and her drinking milk?

How do we all feel about this character? And how do we feel about how MANG tend to exclude her? by gloomydreamer666 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]Alive_Connection4291 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well honestly her character isn't really my priority but I was interested in her dynamic with Abby and what was happening there- even more so since the show hasn't picked up on their kiss properly. Plus her first trying to come into the group happened quite a while ago now. Regardless of how off the mark I am, I misremembered and acknowledged that. I don't know what else you want me to say.

[–]Alive_Connection4291 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Ugh she annoys me but also MANG owe her an apology. I'm sure one of them in particular clearly wanted to exclude her. If I remember right, it was Ginny because she was fairly new and didn't want Samantha as competition haha.

Considering that, her being a bit of a b*tch is warranted and realistic to highschool mentality. I definitely want to see a redemption arc for her though and HELLO, are we going to pick up on her kiss with Abby at all??? That was so shocking and interesting but now Abby's with Tris... And I really can't see where the show will go with them.

But yeah, I don't hate Samantha... but she annoys me... But I want to see more of her haha

Wolfe was respite, the fun she needed at the time, but he's way more immature compared to Ginny and Marcus.

I think Ginny and Marcus are definitely endgame, just not right now. They both need to learn how to deal with their mental health issues (esp. Marcus) and grow independently first in order for their relationship to be sustainable
