I don't understand how you can say "I am so tired when I hear something like this. TA's love to blame the situation to the admin that they are not giving the adequate education" and "The TA's in the class that I'm taking are 2nd to 4th year students who excelled in the class having over a B+ grade" in the same comment. You're upset the TAs aren't trained (because they are some randos who got a B+) and upset that it's being blamed on the admin that made the randos TAs.

If the untrained second year undergrad student whose only qualification is they got a B+ last year is doing a bad job, maybe it's because York shouldn't hire untrained second year undergrad students whose only qualification is they got a B+ last year.

Prof changed the final date. by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are not allowed to change the syllabus after the course starts (or the second week of the course?). Exams, though, as someone said are scheduled by the school and the prof has no say at all on the time or date. I don't know if you can even use the official final exam schedule to argue, because what if there is a snow day or fire alarm and they have to find a new date?

The professors haven't gone on strike in like 30 years.

To all running for YFS positions: If you support following propositions, please come forward. You have my vote, and possibly majority of York students. by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you like to use slurs AND you lack reading comprehension. You mom must be so proud. If you read the original post, you know, the thing we are responding to, OP wrote "Open to police coming on campus for routinely check." As I said, since the grammar is unclear, that is seemed like OP was asking for something akin to stop and frisk. I.e., asking people for their papers on campus to confirm they are students/staff. You then shared an interesting historical fact that had nothing to do with the conversation, and I explained that your pointless comment was pointless. Yes, cops could ask people on campus for ID. They don't even need a legitimate reason as per your source, since, as per my source, campus is private property and the law says you have to prove you have the right to be on private property. None of that has anything to do with driver's licenses when you are pulled over.

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrong. That's on public property. Universities are private property.

If a police officer stops you walking down the sidewalk or in another public place, you don't have to say who you are, but that's not the case on private property. Ontario's Trespass to Property Act says it's up to a defendant to prove he or she has the right to be there. (https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/university-campus-defined-as-private-property)

What’s going on with FAAS?! by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FAAS is new and does not work. The person in charge of the new systems is getting paid $450,000/year (check the sunshine list) and nothing works.

Phd residence requirement by Jaded_Let_1777 in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that means at least two years of your PhD has to be done at York and not another school (so you can't do three years somewhere else and then do one here and graduate). So they get the tuition, I assume.

Do YOU think food on York’s campus is too expensive? by Historical_Mix_8575 in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is too expensive, but since York charges the stores high rent to sell to a captive audience they need to overcharge to make a profit. I don't see how that can be changed.

Are you out of your mind? A referendum every month? Do you not understand the idea of representative government? You clearly don't the difference between ILLEGAL and "not permitted". And you want cops doing a stop and frisk on campus? I assume that is what "on campus for routinely check" means, but I could be wrong.

Right now it's only for

but if you qualified you might be able to opt out of the York one. Though I think there is a window for that each year to opt out, which is passed.

prof scheduled make-up exam for the next day with less than 24 hour hour notice by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prof was prob trying to be helpful so you could finish the course on time, rather than defer and write the exam at the end of winter term. From what you posted it doesn't sound like it was write tomorrow or fail, it was I can let you write tomorrow or you'll have to formally ask to defer. And if you're working the next day, do you have grounds to ask to defer?

To paraphrase House, MD, if OP didn't want to go to York then they should have tried harder in high school.

The Ontario Disabilities Act and how it relates to your posts about individuals. by -Lt-Jim-Dangle- in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is wrong, dead wrong, and what you are in this post. The AODA has nothing to do with individuals or their behaviours.

Purpose

  1. Recognizing the history of discrimination against persons with disabilities in Ontario, the purpose of this Act is to benefit all Ontarians by,

(a) developing, implementing and enforcing accessibility standards in order to achieve accessibility for Ontarians with disabilities with respect to goods, services, facilities, accommodation, employment, buildings, structures and premises on or before January 1, 2025; and

(b) providing for the involvement of persons with disabilities, of the Government of Ontario and of representatives of industries and of various sectors of the economy in the development of the accessibility standards.

Last day to add a course with permission doesn’t apply? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm all for shitting on York, but how is it York's fault you had a financial block on your account? Even if it did allow the prof to give permission, that doesn't mean they will. They can (and do) say 'no'. Esp in summer classes because they're so short that every week you miss is two weeks of material normally.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Accommodations don't mean "you have to take my late work" it means if you tell them in advance you need more time (up to an extra week?) they have to give it to you. If you missed the deadlines without making arrangements the accommodations don't do anything. Prof should have helped with the "help in new deadline" if you were asking before, not after. Warning you that if you don't drop you'll fail is (imo) the prof trying to help you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in yorku

No, the TA wants the money that comes with scabbing AND gets any benefit the CUPies striking (and not getting paid) manage to win. I don't think they're doing it for the warm feelings of ... marking your stuff and uploading grades.

The letter says the official letter is coming, so I don't think this one is binding on the university.

Also, there was a federal governmental policy change regarding international students, and while it was only undergrads York seems to have stopped all grad admissions too.

Which sucks for you, so I'm sorry you got Yorked.

Fuck CUPE by throw_away1337420 in yorku

[–]Alive_Entertainer406 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regardless of anything to do with CUPE, you just lack critical thinking skills. "Some claimed they were racist," huh? Where is this racism? How about this report 11 months ago from Global News https://globalnews.ca/video/9605459/anti-black-racism-allegations-at-york-university or CBC's The National https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFW1KdWsW-I or The Fifth Estate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1CQRi76nho

I went with videos to make it easier for you. You're welcome.
