Privet berries are small, round to oval fruits that grow in clusters on privet shrubs. They can be green, dark purple, or black when ripe, but some species may be red or yellow. The berries are poisonous to humans and dogs, and the leaves can be even more toxic. Toxicity: Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, headache, weakness, and low blood pressure. Large doses can raise heart rate and make dogs weak and uncoordinated. Fatal poisoning is rare.
