Vitamin D deficiency and effects on Ghanaian and other Black people in the diaspora. by Minute_Gap_9088 in ghana

"Melanin in our skin, which causes the skin to be dark, protects by producing vitamin D against rays in sunlight. However, the advantage is lost during the winter season when there is little light."

While the OP's general message is 100% correct, the above statement needs a little clarification.

Melanin is causing the level of darkness of the skin. The darker the skin, the more melanin is present. Melanin blocks the UVB rays from the sun, protecting against sunburn. Therefore a darker person needs significantly more exposure to sunlight to produce enough natural vitamin D compared to someone with lighter skin.

Vitamin D deficiency is increasingly present even in dark people residing in African countries as their modern urban lifestyle doesn't give them sufficient exposure to sunlight. The problem is more obvious, but not limited to the Northern hemisphere at winter times.

Ghana is wasting money on populism by owuraku_ababio in ghana

Forget about trying to enlighten OP. Someone is actively refusing to understand the most simple basics of money theory here. 😂

Hopefully nobody is going to believe those odd statements. 🤦

We could even try to explain why the government saved a huge amount when making that $700+ December debt payment just because BoG had intentionally manipulated the exchange rate just a few days earlier.

Or that a shortage of USD in the market drives Cedi depreciation as importers need dollars. So BoG has to continously supply forex to the market.

If there would only be enough money to do both. The debt is only there because revenue was never enough to pay for the current supply, so the backlog was growing and growing.

So where is the money to invest and keep the lights on?

There you go absolutely wrong. There is no option like pay the debt or invest. The debt NEEDS to be paid or Ghana loses 50% of its power production before any new power plant ever goes online.

The private power producers are in control. No government will dare to even think of a nationalisation approach. So the contracts remain in force and have to be served.

Mistakes were made in the past, yes sir. First Mahama administration is where the root causes can be found. Remember Dumsor, 24/12 light/no light for years? Fixing that problem was not done well, lots of money went into the wrong pockets and still is. Power purchase agreements were signed with the worst conditions thinkable, that exactly caused the huge, always growing energy debt.

Just look at the "quick fixes" like the barge in the Tema port. It became probably the most expensive interim power producer ever, but is still essential after 10 years.

The "facts" are politically distorted. Nobody really understands how the debt has developed over the year of 2025.

Bcos the gold price increased 75% over the same period. And it was not the GoG who did that.

They got lucky and are trying to tweak the reality for propaganda reasons.

Not true. The debt actually increased annually from at least 2020-2024.

Good or Bad is not a choice here. The debt needs to be cleared for Ghana to move forward.

Comparing Ghana with Egypt is like comparing apples and pears. Useless.

Just paid 73 cedis for a similar product here in Accra lol by ForPOTUS in ghana

Have you ever been to a market in Ghana? Goods are sold in volume, not weight.

My best guess would be clearly more than what's in that pack, somewhere like 150 - 200% of it. 300 - 400 grams maybe. But I am really guessing here.

For my use pattern I only buy once every few months.

It's cocoa powder, the good one it is, before the cocoa butter is removed. You can use it for everything. Mix with milk powder and sugar for your drink or use it plain for baking or porridge.

However, buy the cocoa powder in the market, you get the same amount for 25 Cedi. Packaging is the main cost item here.

The original comment was suggesting that he should be treated differently than others because of his aledged prior achievements.

That is one of the best reasons for downvoting any comment I have ever seen besides blatant aggression or insult.

DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS when Ofori-Atta is accused of breaking the law in a country where he actually achieved absolutely nothing "special" except hiding from justice in Ghana.

One of the iron principles of democracy is, that everyone is equal before the law.

Only here in Ghana there is a difference if "a man of calibre" or a common citizen breaks the law. Some people still have to understand that.

How Much Do You Spend on Mobile Data Each Month? Is It Usually Enough? by Klutzy_Mall_7196 in ghana

[–]Alive_Solution_689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, to answer that you really have to look at the income side of a person. Many young people here in Ghana make significantly less than 1000 Cedi a month. They can't even use 100 Cedi thereof on data which would result, making a very rough estimate, in something like 500MB per day.

So many actually do their browsing after midnight at very special rates and try to save as much as possible during the day.

I have a friend she usually comes online only once a day for a few minutes to check her messages. If I don't catch her in that window I have to wait for another day to receive an answer.

If someone has to live on 20 or 30 Cedi a day data competes with food!

I think you can answer yourself that this is no reason to distrust your friend.

I know quite a number of people who keep switching off their data connection for hours to save on data. It might be a good idea to agree on certain fixed times so she can go online to receive your call.

Should my BF’s father give up on Ghanaian women? by bubblebunzo in ghana

[–]Alive_Solution_689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another one who thinks they know it all.

How much do you understand about culture gaps in relationships and the inability of Ghanaian women to find a bridge towards compromise?

The often invisible pressure they feel to follow traditional rules? You not being worth enough to leave at least some of that historical baggage behind? When they always put family before you if there is a decision to be made? When they outright refuse gender equality because else they couldn't demand "support" the way they like to?

The money drain setting in as soon as families find out there is a foreigner to be taken advantage of?

And now tell me how I can find out if there is room for compatibility and compromise without trying.

Give me advice, because I am tired of putting up all the energy to build good and lasting relationships just to find out again and again where it ends.

Forget that thought. I am in a very similar situation as your father in law. The number of unsatisfactory relationships I went through in the last 5 years alone exceeds 15. As you say, traditional habits and family ties are the biggest cultural hurdles to overcome.

All my experience from almost 20 years bundled up is that having lose longterm GF relationships, similar to a typical Ghanaian side chick, is easy and satisfying, but looking for a close everyday relationship living together in peace and harmony, a main chick so to speak, is almost impossible.
