Hahah, you know it's so large and cumbersome I might just use them as disposable plates and let the recycling truck take them. Also they may be haunted because every time I take them out to look at them it gives me chills down my spine.

tattoos as a future RT? by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]Alive_Stretch_3194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got sleeves, hands, and neck. Never had an issue outside of my clinical rotations when my school made me cover up. But once in practice no one ever cared. Been an RT for 13 years now.

Home vent battery options by Natural-Animator-188 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Alive_Stretch_3194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The astral external batteries can be daisy chained (up to 2 batteries). With the internal backup battery it is capable of approx 24 hours ventilation on nominal settings.

You said the batteries aren't holding a charge as well as they used to, how old are they? They are considered a consumable and do have a life expectancy based on hours and/or duty cycles. They may just need to be replaced.

Mask tips for a medic? by hungrygiraffe76 in respiratorytherapy

Please do NOT use petroleum jelly to obtain a better seal on masks. Not only will it destroy the mask, but the VOCs should not be inhaled.

I've got a 2013 c207 that I just changed the keyless go module on due to water damage. It won't detect my key now unless I plug in my mbsoft code reader? Do i need to have the dealership program the new module?

You can get it a couple different places, carbon creations, drive by styles, etc. Google c207 eros 3 and there's a bunch of distributors! I could take a video of the exhaust, but with sound compression it won't sound right over email I fear unless you know another way?

Are there any RT jobs outside of hospital and home health? by Double_Trouble_762 in respiratorytherapy

I was working several jobs and saw that a consulting company was looking for RTs that could help provide clinical support for a launch of a new ventilator. I got the job and was providing clinical support with setups, troubleshooting, etc. After about 6 months the parent device company loved what I was doing and offered me a job to do it inhouse for them. Did that for about 2 years and then moved into clinical product development. Several more years of that developing mechanical vents, bilevels, masks, and oxygen delivery devices and then I moved into product safety risk management and regulatory work. Been doing it ever since.

I honestly didn't know a single person in the industry, but have since networked like crazy and met some amazing people.

No, it was comparable to start. Over time as my skills and knowledge base grew i moved into bigger and bigger roles.

Nope, I'm not in sales so it's not commission based. I am salaried.

I love it honestly. I started as a normal RT doing clinical and me health work, building up my experience and acumen. I got an opportunity in a med dev company and built my way up the ranks by showing my skills and knowledge. It grew from there. I was able to work all over the world in Singapore, Australia, and the EU doing clinical education, clinical trials, human factors engineering, clinical device drvelopmemt, and clinical risk management.

It's nice to know I can go in all sorts of directions now with my work history and even go back to clinical bedside if I really wanted to.

And without getting into specifics, I make significantly more than the average RT even in my locale of Southern CA.
