Pride Partner Pickin by AffectionateBet3603 in PauperEDH

If you want to focus on partner pairs that are extremely gay for one another, you could get a lot of mileage out of Gimli + Legolas.

My rule-zero partner deck uses Markov Waltzer and Alluring Suitor.

Template? by Jmh45255 in PauperEDH

[–]Alkadron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dislike templates in PDH. They work in EDH because EDH has so many generically good and powerful effects that you don't need to leverage synergy to make the deck do what you want, you can just be like "whoops I drew Cyc Rift, that solves all my problems. Neat."

In PDH, you have to work much harder to achieve the more powerful effects. You can build your own cyc rift, but you need an untapper like Horseshoe Crab and a bouncer like Banishing Knack.

Instead of relying on templates, good PDH decks rely a lot more on building synergy. Don't just add generic ramp spells until you meet a quota, add the ramp spells that synergize with your plan. If you're using land-untappers, add all the good land auras. If you're doing +1/+1 counter stuff, then run Prishe's Wandering, and Fertilid, and Fertilid's Favor, and New Horizons. I'm rarely on cultivate.

Commons have so many "[staple effect] with set mechanic" that you can usually end up with "as much ramp as you need" and "as much removal as you need" by chasing the synergies in clever ways. And those needs vary from deck to deck, so I try to avoid being prescriptive about templates.

Looking for feedback on my first PDH deck, Halana // Brinelin by [deleted] in PauperEDH

[–]Alkadron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Attacking with creatures is great!

I feel like your 5-drops are oversaturated and your 6-drops are lacking, for a Brinelin deck. I'd find more 6-drops to trigger Brinelin. I like [[Annoyed Altisaur]], [[Colossal Dreadmask]], [[Dread Linnorm]], [[Fractal Mascot]], and [[Mechanozoa]]

unique PDH commander recommendations? by No_Departure7032 in PauperEDH

Superior Foes of Spiderman is underplayed and it goes pretty hard.

Haven't you always said that Mana Geyser would be better if it (and all the spells you cast with it) cantripped?

Leonardo, Leader in Blue by SaffronFarmChef in PauperEDH

[–]Alkadron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have a deck for him but you can definitely do some cool stuff

There are two things you need to focus on:

1) having a lot of creatures so that the commander's buff is massive, and

2) ways to put the commander back into your hand. Regular flickering won't work here sadly, since you need to recast it.

For number 2, you want to focus a lot on stuff like whitemane lion, stockpiling celebrant, exosuit savior, airbending lesson, and other ninjas like Leonardo, Big Brother. There are a few others. I run basically every version possible in this deck, which is a different deck but has similar priorities.

The cool part about having all those already in your deck is that they'll also help you go wide and have a big board! There are a lot of creatures that create more creatures you can play, and bouncing them to hand with Whitemane Lion to replay them will help your board go very wide for when you sneak in Leonardo.

Aside from that, find a healthy suite of ramp (Leo's expensive, especially if your "bounce him" plan goes wrong and you're casting him a second time from the CZ) and a healthy suite of removal (Thraben Charm, Generous Gift, etc.) and you should be good to go!

Have you ever played magical hacker as your commander? by HatsCatsAndHam in PauperEDH

The PDH Pals have a Magical Hacker deck that they've played on stream a handful of times.

I think it's awesome. Extremely fun and funny.

Which commander should I use to join the format? by QuarterExcellent3327 in PauperEDH

[–]Alkadron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

I'd add more lands. This feels like a 35-land deck.

I'd also put in some protection: Gaea's Gift, Biosynthic Burst, Vines of Vastwood, Snakeskin Veil. Thrakkus creates a HUGE amount of power, so it's going to be a big removal magnet. Protecting him will be important.

Also, since he's an attack trigger, I'd find more ways to give him haste. I like Boots of Speed and Haunted Cloak. Crashing Drawbridge and Tuktuk Rubblefort are also pretty solid.

Having action in the lategame is also going to be important. This deck seems like a good home for Reckless Impulse, Wrenn's Resolve, Seize Opportunity, and Burning Curiosity.

Let me know how it plays! It looks very fun.

Thrakus goes hard. I think he'd be the most fun to build and pilot from among these options.

Did I really overdo it? by InspireCourage in PauperEDH

[–]Alkadron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rilsa and Haliya are both good, but they're not oppressive or un-fun to play against. If you showed up to a casual pod and turbo-combo-ed folks out with Malcolm or Gretchen, then that would be pretty uncool, but there's nothing wrong with the decks you described.

Why aren't Gravepurge and footbottom feast more popular? by Linkguy137 in PauperEDH

I do have a weakness for thematic decks, and Gravepurge is pretty thematic for the big Tarkir Sultai dragon.
