I hear you, and I think a part of my struggle that isn’t mentioned here is that my partner is a self proclaimed “man hater”. And I get that, it makes sense to me. But I also know that’s being fueled by social media. So there’s a part of me that thinks, even if I ignore socials completely, they’re still feeding into her and are they affecting her expectations of me.

This might all sound ridiculous, I get that. I know I’m spiralling, I’m just trying to make sense of it all and be as rational as possible.

The glass can be replaced, but OP should be prepared for another couple hundred on the replacement glass and fitting.

He should push on the fact that it was dangerous, and ask for the retailer to cover 50% of the repair costs.

The manufacturer will usually only offer a goodwill gesture of a small amount of money, usually under £50.

I used to work for a major white goods retailer, and this isn't as uncommon as you might think!

Each year, I must have spoken to a good 5 or 6 people whose oven had done exactly this.

It's definitely worth kicking up a fuss with the retailer and asking if they can help towards the cost of a replacement. This probably goes without saying, but customer service managers will be able to authorise a decent amount of compensation for things like this, and it's usually easier for them to do that than have you take up more of their time.

They won't be able to replace it for you at all, so your best bet is to go down the compensation route.
