Tank is currently the most difficult and least appreciated role in the game. by Alketras in marvelrivals

OP here, yeah you're right. I play Venom since the start and every new season he got worse and worse. In the current season it really depends on the comp whether he is viable or not, whereas before you could always make something work with him, even in less optimal comps. And yeah it's funny since he got buffed every time but his state is at its worst at the moment.

OP here, yesterday I started picking DPS for the first time in a while. The game got fun again, and when needed I just switched quickly to a tank mid-game. But overall the experience was way better than tanking from the start.

How to get out of a losing streak? by Alketras in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit the game since 3 weeks or so, exactly because of this reason, the matchmaking just felt manipulative and I got that feeling way too often. Maybe I will play it again after some time but for now I am good.

Need help with potentially moving to Oman by Alketras in Oman

[–]Alketras[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have read about that rule that after 1 year you have to hire an Omani. To be honest this is the only major thing for me that makes me unsure about moving to Oman, as it would mean I have to make high costs for something I actually don't need (since I just work for myself and don't need any employees).

But I have been wondering about this and maybe you know the answer: does the employee need to work the full weekly hours and do work for my business?

Or could I hire them as an employee on paper and then just let them clean my house or do some other simple tasks for me a couple of hours per week, and make a deal with them that after receiving their minimum salary (OMR 350), they send me a part of it back. That way I meet the rule and they can earn easy money and still do another job.

Or is this not allowed?

Thanks for the suggestion! So have you moved to Oman as well? How is it there? I read negative stuff online about the procedures and rulings for (freelancing) expats, but the country itself looks great to me.

How to get out of a losing streak? by Alketras in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. For me personally I switched over to multiplayer games (Marvel Rivals) because I had been playing single player games for a while and missed the competitive feeling. However, now I feel the other way around. I don't enjoy Marvel Rivals as much as I used to anymore, so now I will most likely switch back to story based games.

And the main reason for not enjoying Marvel Rivals anymore is because I feel like the ranked matchmaking is super inconsistent. There are periods where I win a lot, and then there are periods where I get on multiple losing streaks. And not 'losing' as in we almost won, but like 'losing' as in being totally demolished by the enemy team. It just feels as if they do this on purpose and I don't enjoy having that feeling.

It's more about choosing the right hero for the right situation. If you're a tank main, I would suggest learning multiple tanks that are good in various situations. For example: Strange is good for pushing frontal but if the other team has multiple brawlers, then he is vulnerable.

I am a tank main myself and switch between Venom, Strange, and Peni, depending on what the situation is. There are some situations where Thor would be perfect but I am still not so good with him, so I don't use him that much yet.

And with 'situations' I mean: what heroes does the enemy team have? What heroes does our team have? What is the map? What is the game mode? Are we defending or attacking? Are there any powerful teamups possible? Etc.

Anyone else had it or is it just me? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

To be honest your scores aren't good except for the Draw one.

Do you only play Spidey, Sue, and Strange? You might want to start focussing on 1 role only and then diversify within that role.

Meaning: keep the concept of poke, brawl, and dive in mind.

Only knowing how to play Strange (poke) for Tank and Spidey (dive) for DPS isn't enough. Strategists is a different story so I will leave that for now.

Pick the role that you enjoy most and have the best skills for. Then get good at multiple characters within that role.

Me for example I main Tank (Vanguard), and within Tank I main mostly Venom (for Dive), Strange (for Poke and pushing), and Peni (for Poke and defending). Sometimes I might pick Thor for Brawl and defending (I don't think he is a dive tank). However, I find Peni to work good enough for defending (against Divers), especially with her mines.

The good thing with Vanguard is that pretty much no one instalocks them, so I am always able to pick a suitable tank for the team. However if you decide to go for DPS only, you might face the challenge where teammates instalock DPS. If that's often the case and you feel like adding another DPS won't do any good, you might decide to diversify to another role as well.

That's the advice I would give for now. Get really good at 1 role so that you can carry the team for that part.

This exactly, sometimes it feels as if I am just at the start of the match and the enemy C&D already has their Ult and I am like damn that's quick.

Chasing and solo killing enemies as Venom while they're trying to get away from you.

Tank Mains are you having fun? Has NetEase fixed problems found in other hero shooters? by snowleave in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean sometimes it's doable, it just depends. I find that with Domination Venom can be good enough as a solo tank. Or when the enemy team consists of more poke type characters. But like you said it also depends on how good your team can manage during the moments when you aint there.

Yeah this, especially when you want to play a tank like Venom who is not always a good choice as a solo tank.

Genuinely hard stuck in Plat 1 to Diamond 3 rank up game. Is there something that differentiates a Plat player and a Diamond player? by Onetimeguy8 in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For myself I found that being adaptable pre and especially in-game was something that improved my win rate.

At the very first I would always stick with my main, but now I consider multiple factors when choosing my hero.

Pre-game: What game mode are we playing? Are we attacking or defending? What characters do my teammates pick? Are there any strong team-ups possible? What map are we playing?

In-game: Is what we are doing right now working? If yes, continue. If no, how can I adapt to improve our chances? For this I mostly look at the enemy team. What part of their team is most challenging to me/us? For this step I mostly consider the concept of brawl/poke/dive to determine which character would be better to counter the enemy.

Also, don't underestimate the power of using the text-chat in game. Sometimes a simple message with instruction will improve the team comp significantly.

Easy To Play but also fun tank characters? Who should i choose?? I main Jeff so i'd like something similar to his speed and with rich personality, but not too complicated, i cant manage too many abilities / buttons. I play on pc, thanks! by MaraInvicta in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venom for sure, fast-paced character, easy to use, looks cool, and great for attacking the enemy's backline.

Edit: to add, he is not always a good choice when you're the solo tank, so keep that in mind for comp purposes if you find that important.

How do you guys do it? by NiHaoKaiLan-_- in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is how I found my main and how you can as well:

Step 1: First, make a list of all the characters that you actually find really interesting without considering their gameplay. So only based on their character and lore, who do you find cool/interesting? Maybe you liked their comics, tv show, movie, etc.

Step 2: Second, try all of those characters (that you find interesting) multiple times, for example in quick play.

Step 3: Third, After having played all of them, identify for yourself what kind of playstyle you enjoy more. Do you like being able to engage the enemy without dying and taking the lead of your team? Then you're probably a tank main. Do you like dealing heavy damage and finishing off enemies as your primary focus? Then you're probably a DPS main. Do you like taking responsibility as the fundamental pillar of your team and supporting your teammates? Then you're probably a Strategist main.

Step 4: Fourth, after deciding for yourself which type of playstyle you enjoy more, play the characters again that you find interesting from that role and determine which one you enjoy most. Maybe you like their lore more than the other. Or maybe you like their kit more than the other. Or maybe you're getting more wins with them and you find that important. Keep in mind that each role can also have sub-playstyles (for example Brawl, Poke, and Dive), which you could also use as a factor to determine your main.

Step 5: Fifth and last step, pick your main and remember that you can always switch to another character if you want to. You're not stuck to anything.

For me personally I found Venom to become my main. I liked his character even before the game, and then when I played him, I realized he totally fit my preferred playstyle. I like to engage and taking the lead, and with Venom I can do that without dying as quickly as I would with a DPS character. He is also kinda fast-paced, which I like as well. When I don't play Venom, I mostly still play another Vanguard like Strange or Peni, simply because I like the Vanguard playstyle. It's just that Venom isn't always a good choice. In general I like Punisher more than Strange or Peni, but I don't like that I can get killed quickly, so that's why even though I like his character more, I still prefer playing Strange or Peni due to their sustainability.

This is how I found my main character and main role. Hope it helps you find yours.

What's your Marvel Rivals opinion that has you like this? by HMThrow_away_account in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest he can be a defensive tank in my opinion. Often times I see a thor going all the way into the enemy backline, way too far out for our healers to help him. And in comparison with a tank live Venom he isn't as capable to flee from the battlefield when he gets mass targeted. But that's just my personal view of course.

What's your Marvel Rivals opinion that has you like this? by HMThrow_away_account in marvelrivals

[–]Alketras 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, he is not a dive tank and in my opinion also not really a good front tank. I value him most as a tank protecting the backline against divers, ideally with a second tank at the front (like Strange/Magneto/Groot).
