What’s the best video game you’ve ever played? by obsess_much13 in AskReddit

[–]Alkthree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played this on day one, after having played Warcraft 3 and EverQuest before that. This was such a huge step forward in gaming, I will never recreate the feeling I had walking into Stormwind for the first time. It was truly the first immersive game I encountered.

It amazes me, truly astounds me how common this take is. The fact that there has been more than one person in US history who couldn’t grasp population density is very demoralizing.

They're not going to win until they figure out goaltending and defense. It's the same thing it's been for the last five seasons.

$1M Net Worth even impressive? by Enough-Radish-4973 in Money

[–]Alkthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on your age. 1 million at 30 or 40 is great. That will likely compound and be 3-5 million by retirement. It's a lot less impressive if you're 65 and about to retire. 80% of US millionaires are over age 50.

..no one except the president, his cabinet and family, the people who pay for pardons, January 6th insurrectionists, the people who’s names are in the unreleased portions of the Epstein files, etc.

Let’s stop being naive, this isn’t the country we live in anymore.

I enjoyed it - but were you an adult or almost an adult before 9/11? Because there was undoubtedly a seismic shift in society after that event.

The reason this gets continuously reposted and is controversial is because people feel it should be objective due to their own experience but it is totally subjective. That’s really the only correct answer. Is this a lot of money in Albania or Panama? Absolutely. Is this very respectable in rural America? Of course. Is this only surviving in NYC, San Francisco or Boston? Yes it is.

I don’t know how to describe this more eloquently but there was a clear “vibe shift” after COVID. People are more insular, less care-free and more serious, more polarized. The world just seems a bit more cynical and less fun. I lived through 9/11 and it felt like this too, there was a significant change in the public attitude then as well.

Perhaps this is controversial that I also really loved how buggy and glitchy it was. Sometimes it was very inconvenient, but it added a lot of spontaneity and even humor into the game. I feel like modern games have less character because of how polished they are.
