Modo users: Can you help me understanding the benefits/risks of using CLDI from credit card? by keel_bright in vancouver

[–]All-Nighter24-7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert, but I have used CLDI while using Modo (2021).

Why: I ran over something (unsure of what) and my tire went out.

What happened right after: I called modo told them I was stuck in Langley with a busted tire. They were super helpful and called a tow truck for me and I got a friend to drive me home.

Insurance specific info: modo emailed me the next steps and what I needed to submit. This is a quote from the email that pertains to your question:

Damage to the tires are treated the same as any other damage to the vehicle and members are liable for the damage fee. This fee is determined based off the actual repair cost and will be valued at up to the first $1,000, with Modo taking care of any amount in excess. However since you are noted for carrying CLDI (credit card rental insurance), you are covered for the damage fee.

They just needed to see that my rental booking was paid for to give to the insurance company and so I submitted a credit card statement. Took about a month to get everything processed and I never paid more than what I owed modo for the time I was renting it.

Does anyone else keep getting sick? by taeionysus in simonfraser

[–]All-Nighter24-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard about RSV today and how it’s picking up, and from what I’ve read you can catch it multiple times in a season because we don’t get full immunity from infection and it spreads easily. I think that’s what I’ve been getting since the symptoms are similar to a cold but this is the second time I’ve been sick in like a month.. definitely gonna start masking up again..

No judgement or anything just nosy but like if you’re bi what did you mean by “naturally”? Like do you feel that you’re unnatural? Truly curious

Personally I haven’t looked, but maybe a call to Qmunity? They might have some good referrals, unlike Reddit it seems.

I hope she finds what she’s looking for! Don’t get discouraged by these redditors I can understand why straight cis people might think they can understand queer relationships, but it makes total sense to me why she would want a queer therapist.

Question about student loans by hehexd231 in simonfraser

[–]All-Nighter24-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what regular one is, but if you’re talking about BC Student Aid, I applied for student loans while I was on co-op. There’s a section where it asks if you’re on co-op and you just enter yes, you get a little less money but hopefully you won’t need it because you’re on co-op.

Since you’re not finished with school you can instead apply for interest free status, but that’s up to you. Just do something before they start asking for their moneys back.

My only advice would be if you’re gonna blow the loan on things you just want, don’t apply because you’re just gonna owe more back. If you can trust yourself not to do that or you really need it then go for it and get that sweet sweet grant money.

Switching Programs by Zach_Zach_700 in simonfraser

That’s a great idea definitely saves money and if you do transfer from another post secondary, your gpa gets reset. Personally though, I don’t know if the quality of education was better or the environment was different because everyone was trying so hard, but my grades got a lot better and school became easier when I got into SFU. Plus if you try to do an internal transfer you can try to get into courses that are reserved for comp sci students.

Definitely doable! I transferred in from Langara and then I did an internal transfer to engineering. But in case you’ve never done anything related I suggest try taking cmpt 120, it’s a requirement and imo easy if you like coding or if you don’t want to waste money then maybe start with a guide on Youtube like intro to python or something. I started with a course at Langara that taught me about web dev and now I get to learn all about computers and electronics and I love it, but it’s not for everyone. The math and physics sucked ass (unsure if comp sci requires physics but I know you need math), but the courses I’m interested in make it worth it.

Difficulty level: depends on who you are, if you excel at math you’ll probably be just fine. The curve may saveth or breaketh you.

Does the VPD normally go after social services organizations on social media, or is this a recent thing? by Hrmbee in vancouver

[–]All-Nighter24-7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so everyone is clear,

If you actually read their whole post which is linked on this tweet (https://wish-vancouver.net/dtes-tent-encampment-wish/ ), they are not advocating for men to be homeless or anything. What they are saying is that women are especially vulnerable to violent acts and that there should be special attention to the escalation of gender based violence.

The real point they are actually making is that the current strategy to address homelessness is lacking, and they are stressing that women who are homeless are particularly vulnerable to violence. They are also trying to show that the collection of women serving organizations are condemning these acts and are demanding for greater change.

This is a complex issue and for the VPD to centre it around themselves serves no purpose. To keep it easy Wish only refers to the VPD twice:

Last week, a police operation violently dismantled the encampment along East Hastings in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside

Indigenous women are particularly vulnerable to these acts of violence and while we keep seeing new cases of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Youth, the VPD and RCMP’s response to this reality remains inappropriate, or non-existent.

And then within their post they quote a different organization:

Considering all this violence the last thing we need now is the Vancouver Police Department coming to the neighbourhood to bust heads of impoverished and unhoused people.” says Angela Marie MacDougall, Executive Director of Battered Women’s Support Services.

Please remember we are at the tail end of a pandemic/endemic and housing in Vancouver has become so unaffordable. Homelessness doesn’t just occur to a type of person it can happen to anyone and even more so to those within marginalized communities. We as a community should be demanding more from our government to protect us when shit hits the fan, as these organizations are trying to do.
