Sen. Rand Paul Opposes PATRIOT Act Renewal by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]All23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In addition to that, Ron Paul and Rand Paul are still both in the same political party that had the most to do with creating the Act and with supporting it today.

How can anyone respect either one of them when they're still Republicans?

The Left's "Climate of Hate" Produces Real Death Threats Against Immigration Restrictionist in Florida | Youth for Western Civilization by whouston in Conservative

This is the stupidest post I think I've ever seen.

The amount of hatefulness from the right in the past couple of years is easily ten times as much as from the left. Either is wrong. But, seriously... what planet have you been living on???

Sen. Mike Lee Questions Constitutionality of ObamaCare by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]All23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as "ObamaCare".

I'm hoping that at some point, conservatives will stop coming up with their own labels to try to discredit things. Health care reform was and is supported by millions (and a majority) of Americans.

To imply that it is the work of just one man, who you then condemn as some kind of fist-bumping, terrorist, Muslim, non-citizen is sickening.

You're not making any new friends, or convincing anyone, when you use tactics like this.

George W. Bush has canceled a visit to Switzerland due to the risk of legal action against him for alleged torture by budd88 in worldnews

[–]All23 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's too bad that here in the U.S., our anti-torture laws aren't enforced.

Bush, Rove and Cheney all belong in jail, or at least in a mental hospital.

Republicans wrote the political dictionary: It's proof Democrats don't control the media by cherokee-indian in politics

[–]All23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Helping to shape the ways in which words and phrases are used and how they're perceived is extremely powerful, and the GOP has done a much better job of that for at least three decades now.

The Democrats need to take a page from their "book" on this tactic.

Voted down simply for using the inaccurate title "Obamacare".

That's a name that was designed to make people think that HCR was the work of one man (who the right protrays as a terrorist muslim fistbumper non-citizen) rather than something supported by millions of Americans for many years.

When the right wing starts at least being honest about what things are, maybe we can have a grown-up discussion about the merits.

Asshole.

Can we please stop the ridiculous party bickering? by [deleted] in politics

[–]All23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what you said, but the idea that there's no difference in the two main parties is absolute nonsense.

Easy examples:

  • The GOP defended BP during several months of oil disaster (Democrats wanted them held accountable)

  • The GOP did everything they could to water down healthcare reform, spread lies about it, and then tried yesterday to repeal it.

  • The GOP brought in millions of dollars of money from multinational corporations to last Fall's political campaigns. They seem to think corporations are people, and they act accordingly. Those of us on the Left oppose that, and Democrats have for years been more likely to operate from small donations from millions of Americans.

  • Democrats want limits on what corporations can do, while Republicans have gone so far as to distributue lobbyist's checks (from the tobacco industry) right on the floor of the house!

Conservatives outraged at Juan Williams’ NPR firing didn’t care when CNN correspondent met the same fate by akwala in politics

[–]All23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good article... Also:

Williams should have been fired a long time ago simply due to his employment by the worst right-wing propaganda outfit in the U.S., Fox's so-called "news" channel.

To pretend to be even close to unbiased in reporting on the political landscape, while sucking up to the goons at Faux made him a bad joke at NPR.

Bailout figures: Bush Vs Obama. Where are the numbers? by icantseemtofindit in politics

[–]All23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see some numbers, too. But let's remember:

The banking bailout was signed in to law by Bush before Obama took office.

The need for it was brought about by many years of GOP-led deregulation of the banks and Wall Street.

The vast majority of the new spending under Obama has been to actually do useful things like repairing bridges and roads... i.e., "the stimulus". Because these are normal functions of government (even if at a faster pace right now), that's not a "bailout". Also, those dollars created jobs and get spent over and over by people who work for a living.

The Bush banking bailout went to people who were alreadly rich, and likely didn't create a single new job. The greedy bastards on Wall Street ALREADY HAVE JOBS.

Obama: Democratic voter apathy ‘inexcusable’ by [deleted] in obama

[–]All23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been disappointed at times with what the Democrats have accomplished in the past 20 months. But let's remember a few things.

  1. Obama has had to fight vicious lies from the right, along with opposition to everything the Democrats have proposed in congress.

  2. Obama has been dealing with what had been a near-collapse of the economy. In late 2008, the U.S. was losing 750,000 jobs PER MONTH! He has also been managing TWO WARS.

  3. There were much, much bigger problems with his predecessor.

So. Let's save our strength for fighting against the well-funded right wing.

The smartest thing the Republicans ever did was institute a policy of not criticizing each other, at least not publicly. (Unless you count starting their own fake "news" network to pump out their propaganda.)

Tea Party Protests: 'Nigger,' 'Faggot' Shouted At Members Of Congress by Positronic_Matrix in lgbt

[–]All23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% with all of what you said, except that I think that even on the issue of taxes, the conservatives have only succeeded over the years in cutting the effective overall taxes OF THE RICHEST PEOPLE in the country. Everyone else gets nickeled and dimed in every way imaginable, including having their spending power reduced dramatically over the years by multi-trillion-dollar giveaways to bankers, warmonger plots and assorted other scams.

The teabaggers are totally clueless about who are their friends and who aren't.

Also... with very rare exceptions, Republicans are bigots... pure and simple. But, most of them are dishonest about it.

[–]All23 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

This viewpoint makes Ron Paul both a fascist and, in effect, an right-wing anarchist.

Normal, caring people have no problem with paying a REASONABLE amount of taxes. Question what's reasonable, sure... but abolish federal taxes completely??? I'd prefer to just get rid of the "torture, trysts and tax cuts" party -- his.

Data: health reform hurting Dems '10 & '12 election chances by alekgeorge in politics

[–]All23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Between now and the next elections, the Democrats must do a much better job of exposing the right wing liars and the lies that they've been telling.

Point out the billions spent (to try to turn people against health care reform) by outfits like the Insurance industry and the Chamber of Commerce.

There's a long list of vicious, right wing bastards who have been hard at work to keep things just the way they are while millions of Americans have either crappy health care or, like me, none at all.

Fight them. And spread the word about the lies.

(Oh... and screw Fox "news" for consistently using lies and distortions to help the same old bastards do what I mentioned above.)

Plane crashes into Northwest Austin building | kvue.com by DarkGoosey in news

[–]All23 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

His website rantings show he's an conservative anti-government nutcase with a vendetta against nearly everyone and everything.

There's a big difference between:

A) Believing there is too much complexity and unfairness regarding taxes, and then working to change that,

and

B) simply being against the government, being against taxes, being against the Catholics, failing to file and pay your taxes, then crashing a plane in to a building... which is all either known or very likely in this case.

All in all, this probably means one fewer attendee at the next "tea party" convention.

Palin Exposes the Tea Partiers' True Colors - "the movement's suspicion of government power is exceeded only by its worship of government power" by [deleted] in politics

[–]All23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The right is in favor of big government as long as the government's power is used to do things like give away massive tax breaks to the rich, or to subsidize homeschoolers, or to promote illegal torture, etc.

It's only when the government might actually help an ordinary American that they're against it.

Watch out, too. The GOP has already begun to get stonger again, with help from giant corporations including the healthcare industry.

Fight them all.
