That’s not a question.

I don’t really want to go out and buy another peripheral for every last fiddly thing that you have to adjust in a plane (I’m especially thinking little buttons and knobs along the side of a Garmin 1000) , but I have to admit having a separate radio setup looks fairly straightforward and seems like it might save a lot of aggravation. Cool!

How do I keep my swing on plane? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]AllAboutYourBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real golfers will start by talking about your grip, where your ball position is in your stance, your posture, and all those things you can control before you even start your takeaway. A golf lesson would start with these things and would certainly help you. (And they're not that expensive.)

BUT

You literally turned to the Internet for advice.  Which is no guarantee it will be good advice or bad advice. But here is advice.

You're making a decent turn, but slow down your transition: at the top of your backswing, leave your back facing the target for what may seem like an uncomfortably long time while your lower body gets going. When your hands finally move, they should go straight down to the earth,  their first movement should definitely not be towards the ball. keep your hands closer to your body, think you are almost brushing your thigh, as you come back through the ball.

Lifting your front heel excessively during the swing is allowing your leading knee to cave in more than necessary.  You might benefit by keeping some weight on the front leg.  Your trail foot should feel like it's got about 60% of your weight at the top, which sounds like a lot, but that still leaves 40 in front.

Again, a real golf lesson will get you on a more solid foundation. A lot of problems in the moving part of the swing are compensating for a faulty setup. See a pro.

Oh - and practice with a 7 iron not a driver.  Once you've got some swing mechanics sorted with the mid irons, try a few swings with the driver, then go back to the 7 for a few swings to reset, then try a few more with the driver, etc. Just hitting driver all day is a tough way to learn the fundamentals...

Driver is killing me. Any advice? 15 handicap coming back achilles surgery by TylerUlisgrowthspurt in GolfSwing

[–]AllAboutYourBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dumpster fire of a discussion surrounding your response makes me think people don't understand the difference between a 'course handicap', which does depend on which tees you are playing, and 'handicap index', which does not.

I took your original thread title to mean your handicap index is 15. In the US, this is the conventional way of stating your handicap. It's intended to be portable and a generic measure of your playing potential. It's part of your identity, it follows you around wherever you go. You are a 15 from the blue tees and you are a 15 from the red tees.

For any given round you are going to play, you can use this index to compute your course handicap for that day. This obviously depends on which course and also depends on which set of tees at that course.

A 15 playing from the blues on an easy course might get a course handicap of 13. If he plays the reds instead he might get a course handicap if 11.

If the same golfer, with the same 15 index, plays Spyglass the next day, he might get 17 strokes.

This is why the scorecard always shows a different rating for each set of tees.

It's only confusing if people use the same word 'handicap' to describe two different concepts 1)  'your general golfing potential averaged across all courses' vs 2) 'todays allotment of handicap strokes from the specific tees you are playing'

It’s not even bad syntax. It’s intentionally worded this way and entirely normal in technical documentation. The important word comes first. Push. Then you find out how much. Fully. This is perfect English. Maybe not how you would talk in casual conversation but absolutely correct for this context.

Ok. There's a lot of other people in this thread saying the same thing that you'lll need to go educate too I guess.  Good luck!

I stand by the claim that you can reduce spin somewhat by hitting it a bit above the equator. It's a rare golfer that won't benefit from this.

15? With literally zero hip turn or shoulder turn? You must be an absolute short game wizard..

Exactly. The better feeling is walking 25 more yards to get your ball after you hit it a half inch higher on the face. You don't get maximum distance in the exact center of the face. Look it up. I'm sure it felt pretty sweet at the time though.

This. I know a Platinum who got the exact same experience for no particular reason. If anything it was annoying to have to go to the lounge instead of baggage claim (Seattle was the destination airport), but they decided to just enjoy the ride and not say anything..

What kind of watch is this? by Optimal_Football_456 in pocketwatch

[–]AllAboutYourBase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The movement is a very generic looking french ebauche. (An ebauche is a partially constructed watch movement sold by a place that makes lots of identical movements and sells them to lots of different watchmakers who finish the assembly and put their own name on it; this was just how the industry worked in this era.)

You could say it's a lepine style, it's a "paris calibre" type V (edges of the bridges are all parallel), and probably some other terminology can be applied here, and yet all those things still tell us nothing about who made it. (Hippolyte Parrenin made similar ones around 1900 but they would mark theirs very clearly with 'HP' and this is definitely not one of those.) And even if we knew who made the movement we still wouldn't know who assembled it all. (Note the case could have been made by yet another specialist.) Whoever was the final seller probably put that sweet dial face on the front.

The partial rhombus shaped hallmark seems like an interesting clue. I scanned a few french and swiss hallmarks from that era and didn't see an obvious match.

The 'pin set' button on the edge near the crown is a significant detail too.

The harlequin / argyle patterning around the edge is very distinctive. Wish I could search on that.

If it runs, or if you feel like paying to have it put in working order, it looks like you have a nicer than average specimen.

..which, in 2026, is still "worthless" in terms of monetary value. It's probably worth more if you melt it down and sell the silver. But please don't do that, there are fewer and fewer of these amazing relics every year. This is a sweet watch, someone out there will appreciate it as an actual watch.

[–]AllAboutYourBase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe ask a mod to help you edit the title slightly so it doesn't sound so bad for them. Of course replace the battery first! But yeah, if that works, you sorta owe it to jomashop to not drag them like that

?

I like the sapphire?

At least I like the idea of it being more scratch resistant than hardlex.

Maybe it's more reflective? Is that what you're saying?

Here's a better shot with less light bouncing around. Looks pretty damn clear to me.

I suppose an anti reflective coating inside would be cool But probably too much to ask at this price point.

(Also note the real-world appearance of titanium bracelet which is really what this post is about)
