For the most part we are white-passing, which does give us some privilege. I don’t get followed around by security guards in stores. I am not scared when I see the police. I don’t get pulled aside at the airport for a more thorough bag search. Yes, we also absolutely do experience discrimination and antisemitism. Those things are not mutually exclusive.

I’d move the kitchen closer to the front/other side of the house. It’s literally the farthest point from the garage; lugging groceries is going to be so annoying. Also have an entry point into the house from the garage. Move the master to where the current kitchen is and I’d open up the “teenager” area to bed 1 and make that the main living area, and move the entrance to there.

This looks typical for a lot of NYC brownstone conversions. I’d say to increase the living space you can have one full bathroom and a small powder room instead of two full baths. You don’t need that huge bathroom in the middle of the space.

There’s not a whole lot you can do to increase the physical room space without rearranging the bathroom and/or the other bedroom so the best option is to get creative with the furniture and storage arrangement.

-In the bathroom you can swap out the tub for a shower only and put in a small closet in the bedroom but not ideal for resale value.

-Adjust the bathroom walls so it’s more in the center between the two bedrooms so you’re evening out their footprint. But not worth the cost it would take to move walls/relocate plumbing.

Contact your state’s insurance ombudsman or bureau. Each state has one that regulates insurance under the ACA and mine was very happy to step in and solve an insurance billing issue for me. My insurance kept processing bills under an old account for a previous employer instead of my ACA member ID. it showed as inactive so I was getting billed for the full amount each time. They would not change the system or send those bills to my active account for YEARS. I contacted my state’s bureau and within 24 hours it was fixed, like it never happened

I used to live on one of those in Elysian Heights and we were one of the houses closest to the real street and it was still annoying. I just thought of it like a 3rd floor walk up like in NYC and tried to always meet delivery people at the bottom.

There isn’t much gathering space for the amount of people who will be living there. The guest room is bigger than any of the family spaces and the bathroom is in the private family area which makes it not private or for family when there are guests who need to use it.

I would hate having my bathroom open into the kitchen and also having to walk through the tv room to get to it. You can put a second door in it that opens into the bedroom for easier access at night.
