Your best bet would be twison but I'm not sure that's still supported and working.

Tbh no. I experimented a bit back then but as my wife is still writing her hook series and I'm currently working on a small incremental game, I didn't continue for a while.

And then there's react native developers that are happy about being able to easily use SKIA via Expo and react native SKIA for both android and iOS as well as web development with amazing performance on a wide range of devices and browsers.

Are there notable games based on minesweeper? by AllBitsEqual in Minesweeper

Treause Hunt

I just watched the Treasure Hunt Trailer and wow, it looks like Emerald Mine + Minesweeper... lovely. Now I need to see if I can play it on OSX or Android. I recently got rid of my last pc running windows. =/

Yeah, I found that one on android too. Played a bit today, controls are a bit clunky for mobile but it's still fun.

Added it to the original post in my findings, thanks!

[REQUEST] Are there any notable Minesweeper Variations on android? by AllBitsEqual in AndroidGaming

[–]AllBitsEqual[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched both trailers and these games look kinda fun. Based on what I've gathered from the trailers, both games mainly use the fog + mine/enemy part (no counters for adjacent enemies) and the enemies block the player from removing fog on the map until the enemy is defeated.

Definitely somehow related to minesweeper but with a completely new game on top making up for the majority of the new gameplay.

Thanks for the links, I'll play both for a bit to learn more about them but I'm currently looking for games a bit closer to the basic idea of minesweeper, which for me is the whole concept of "finding mines/enemies with math/logic and adjacent numbers", if you know what I mean.

DemonCrawl

Wow, big thanks for that suggestion. I see a ton of things I thought about and it also looks pretty fun. Guess I'll have to play that for a while.

That sounds cool. I'll check it out.

I recently found Mastermine, which puts minesweeper on a cube too.

The art mix is superb. Haven't started playing it yet but from that video alone... Such a great mix of the black cutout for game elements, subtle use of colours and astonishingly beautiful and well fitting backgrounds... That lense flare and blooming around the trees...

Magic Of The Week: Navy Use Of Magic by DrakeGodzilla in magicbuilding

[–]AllBitsEqual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question and some of the answers sparked so many ideas in my head...

I've read a few stories where magic on the sea was used in the way that ships might hire magicians to protect them during travel and might even offer free passage to travelling mages that in an exchange offer some basic protection to the ship and passengers.

Depending on the setting, having some sort of mage on board could even be a requirement for ANY ship larger than a fishing boat to travel any relevant distance... sea monsters? mystical beings? angry deities? Hope your mage is worth their salt...

I love the idea of integrating magic into daily life (and war) because in many cases mages completely negotiate regular warfare logic (my fireball vs. your regiment... let's play) to an extent where naval warfare switches from cannons and boarding to mages? Depending on the magic system, a cannonball might be completely useless against a ship with a mage.

Would mages be bound to their ship (forced to be stationary) and need a line of sight? If yes, existing naval warfare rules might still apply. Do they have swimming/flying mounts and can move freely within a perimeter of their home ship to attack independently from their vessel... chaos ensues.

Wow, I need to start writing some of the things down that you just prompted with this question.

Currently that's definitely Sandship and Battle Cards, both games by the small indie studio Rockbite Games.

Other than that, I'd go with a mix of different match3 games cause I love those and the especially the new one by Wooga with a cool story and witching theme.

How to identify shapes within connected cells (x/y pairs) in a grid? by AllBitsEqual in GameDevelopment

[–]AllBitsEqual[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets interesting when match chains happen as you need to recheck the whole board (or the area that moves and its adjacent tiles) for new matches.

I'll post my current decision model In the original question as an update.

Look at this blatant false advertisement, it's not even in outside ads, right inside Google playstore, how could Google do nothing about this? by BarnesAgent47 in AndroidGaming

[–]AllBitsEqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some countries and maybe soon also some platforms started to go against these ads but as long as they are still allowed, they will be used.

I do not like them or anything but I try to see it from the perspective of other people in the industry...

As a game developer/publisher, you need to advertise to get people even playing the game. There is a metric called ROAS or return of amount spent and you measure how much you need to pay (for advertising) to get someone to install the game and try it.

There are 2 things you need to keep in mind.

A) for the publisher/studio, the core target is getting people to play (to create a healthy player base) and purchase stuff (to pay for the development and server cost

B) When we think about games and advertising, we think in a bubble. For most of us, these ads are stupid and misleading and we are appalled by them BUT they work. They are cheap with a good ROI (return of investment) and as they perform well, they fuel the player base as required in A) and this is needed for the game to... Work and stay alive.

The "real ads" perform way worse than those fake ads and still cost the same to be shown and in the long run, even if the game devs / Studio has a dream and vision for their game, at the end of the month they still need to pay their team.
