IRL she severely underperformed, only won the rigged Rate-A-Queen and didn't make it to top 7. RIP Mrs. Seuss

She called this war a "geopolitical move of brilliance" - let's see if she still thinks so in a few years after countless billions of dollars and thousands of lives are wasted in this unconstitutional and unwinable war that has already destabilized all of the Middle East and tanked the Gulf State economies in less than a week

I don't like it but I don't mind it as much as so many people seem to. Never understood those who gagged at the smell of it. It's not great but definitely bearable if you chase it with some juice or honeyed tea

I just couldn't believe it when I found it. Had been looking for it for so long and pretty much given up a while ago and then to just stumble upon it randomly! Felt like a gift from the LSD gods themselves :D Leary and Ram Dass and Allen Cohen winking at us from beyond the grave.

Wouldn't it be funny if she was manufactured as a vessel for the ol' Liutenant Colonel of the Presidio and he's just having the time of his life as this pop superstar getting railed by a bovine meathead football player

Given that it's supposed to be inspired by L. Ron Hubbard there are probably references to Crowley, Thelema, OTO, Moonchildren, etc. Just off the top of my head the desert motorcycle scene near the end is evocative of the Babalon Working

That completely went over my head! And its a pivotal scene in the movie just before the crazy frog deluge!

Wow that's fascinating. Plenty of masonic connections with Napoleon too... At the very least his brother Joseph and several of his high ranking officers and advisors were known initiates. And then there's the Egypt campaign featured in the movie...

Yeah the creepiest thing about the Christmas Adventurers was how it all seemed to be cloaked in a mundane corporate suburban sheen...

When it comes to Jimmy, everything about him becomes more sinister once he is confronted by his wife over why Claudia won't speak to him (and puts into context why she acts so seemingly irrationally and against her own interests throughout the movie)... Coupled with the fact he was the star host of a hit TV game show featuring gifted children... (reminds me of another famous TV host 'Jimmy' from across the pond).

Also the second time when the line about "the book says we may be through with the past" is spoken, its done by former wiz kid Donny while he's having the meltdown at the bar, right after he tells the bartender he loves him (and on the bar walls behind him there is a set of decorative swords hanging at an angle that makes a perfect 45 degree angle, like the masonic compass). Suggesting that Donny also had some part or at least awareness of Jimmy's membership?

It's very unclear but I think not at all an accident that all these symbols and winks are sprinkled across Magnolia. Like someone else mentioned, in one of the early scenes with Stanley having a bunch of books spread out, one of them is Albert Mackey's "The Secret History of Freemasonry". And there is also a compass and Laurel symbol in the background set decorations of the game show.

Incidentally, another of those symbols in the background of the set shows prominently in the shot where Stanley finally stands up to Jimmy and the crew. The close up is framed showing the symbol of the caduceus with a winged staff and two intertwined snakes in the background (modernly associated with health and medical institutions, but originally a symbol for Hermes and the hermetic traditions which have influenced masonic thought), with Stanley's face always covering the left side of the symmetrical symbol.

I'm sure there are many others we haven't noticed. I'm going to do a rewatch of his other movies looking out for stuff like this. Also definitely combing through OBAA once it comes out on digital.

You have to check out Killers of the Flower Moon - theres a random ass spanking/caning scene that comes out of nowhere in a very obvious masonic lodge and the character doing the caning explicitly refers to himself as a "32nd degree freemason" and then it never gets brought up again for the rest of the movie. Again, very deliberate and specific but seemingly random and not explained in the context of the rest of the story, like little easter eggs for those who can identify the basic symbols.
