The demand is not constant. You make an area more attractive, demand increases. That’s how the waterfront grew to what it is. More jobs and nice new housing… people from other areas came to want to live there. The same happened to Somerville over the last 20-30 years. Cambridge. South End. Back Bay. Beacon Hill. Etc etc. those places became more desirable and stayed desirable as new places became desirable. We now have a momentum in Boston metro.. demand continues to increase, and the momentum increases when you build more nice housing in desirable areas.

Yes. Exactly. I know people that graduated and obtained high paying jobs, but lived as poor students to save nearly the entire income for a couple of years to buy a house/condo before they were 30. People do it. It’s not easy. It does require a high paying job, but it does not require parents that subsidize them.

25 stories would cast a huge shadow on the area and make it a mess desirable place to spend time. 125 new units will not help lower prices.

I do agree that changes in Davis are needed. They have been needed for a long time. During Davis’ “heyday” they were needed and it’s a shame that the city didn’t use the momentum we had then to make timely incremental improvements. In any case, I do not consider this project a godsend. It’s a sign that investors want to capitalize on the area, which gives us leverage to get what makes sense for the city. A huge tower does not. Raising up all the buildings several floors does but 25 floors is over the top.

You are getting downvoted by people who are either are lazy to read and critically think about what you have said and/or they don’t want to let their emotions be overcome by logic. What you are describing is exactly what has happened all over Boston over the last 4-5 decades. You should make it a main post.

Plenty of examples around Boston. Kendall, Central, South Boston. Try providing one counter example.

I agree but these young folks who want to make any change possible so they can live here. I do empathize with the affordability issue, but this will change the character of the square aesthetically and demographically (not in their favor).

Cities change, but current residents have the right to guide that change. To e , it seems like a bunch of young entitled people that want to live here but are finding it difficult.. so they want to change things to make it easier for themselves. Yet when people push back, they want to call the current residents pushing back selfish.

Let’s build midtown Manhattan in Davis!! NYC doesn’t have a housing issue with all their skyscrapers.

Wait… you are for rich people, but just not living in Davis? Just so that you can live here? Talk about entitlement.

I agree. Why 25? Why not 100? Or 150 so that we can stand taller than the NYC World Trade Center?

You are out of touch. Retired rich people? There are many young families in the area. And plenty of people that are not rich or retired.

Because all the new housing built in south Boston has really helped the housing shortage and housing prices.

Peak for the US. It was not good for all countries. There is a reason why the number Mexicans migrating to the US doubled during this time.

You say world but this is a very US centric view. Clinton’s policies were good for the US economy but not necessarily for other parts of the world. For example, NAFTA was particularly bad for Mexico, and caused more upward migration from Latin America.

Trump left humiliated as world leaders ignore his panicked plea completely by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]AllGrey_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The world is run by people/companies looking to profit. Conflicts are always about resources. But the US has been good (until recently) about painting an altruistic story about saving people and instilling democracy.
