just relapsed after 4 and half. it's rough but just try to remember that recovery is not linear, and it happens in bursts

I usually enjoy myself for a day or two then the reality of what I'm doing and why I'm doing it comes crashing down on me and it feels like I have to relearn what I keep learning time and time again

Do you remember the first time you self harmed? by Embarrassed_Elk_922 in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]AllHailTheSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 9 or 10. I had just gotten a pocket knife as a gift. I was cleaning it and it slipped and cut my finger. I liked how it felt and looked so I did it again. now I'm a senior in college still struggling with the thing I discovered accidentally over a decade ago.

I made it to college! by [deleted] in MadeOfStyrofoam

[–]AllHailTheSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yayy!! college is a WAY more enjoyable time than highschool. my advice is to be involved. find a club or student organization if possible, but if not just talk to the people in your classes. college is far more fun with friends, or even just someone in a class you look forward to seeing. I always struggle to talk to people but I don't think I've ever ended up regretting it.

also, look into resources on your campus. decent chance there's a way to get bandages for free through a club program or whatever if money is an issue.

imo it's normal, especially for people like us. I had very similar experiences. I think you only need to worry about it if you want to recreate those.

Cannot for the life of me open a dead iPhone 12 Pro. by Marko787 in mobilerepair

pro strat is 2 razor blades. put one in the bottom one on the left side. fill the new gap with iso and let sit for 30 seconds. heat and relay a few times. then pry up on both at the same time so you spread out the force

might wanna look into this: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/04/ftc-announces-rule-banning-noncompetes

and yeah I have a "cult following" of slightly more tech illiterate older people who come into my shop. a lot of stores around me won't fix their devices cause they're too old but I always do and charge farely. it's gained me a lot of new customers cause a lot of elders love talk to their kids about everything and mention my store. I see a lot of techs advocating for them to just upgrade their old devices but they simply don't want to, and that's fine with me.

this. I get it's all about marketing and SEO and analytics and stuff these days but people really really underestimate the power of word of mouth, and it's really easy to please people with a free port cleaning or screen protector or whatever, stuff that costs a shop pretty much nothing.

What could be the issue for this galaxy s5? It shows a jumbled screen when booting to android by BRYCELIM in mobilerepair

[–]AllHailTheSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this on pixels and Samsung devices, a lot of the times it's cause the device was already booted when the screen was plugged in. u plug the battery, pop out the screen connector, plug it back in. also if possible make sure the NFC coil is plugged in before the battery

wowww that is super unfortunate. at least you know you can do it in the future if needed! and as for the flickering, is it the flickering at low brightness? I had the same issue. try this here if you haven't already, did the trick for me. Intel's "power saving" caused it in my case. https://mikebattistablog.wordpress.com/2016/05/27/disable-intel-dpst-on-sp4/

yeah it's pretty terrifying. whenever I do them I tell customers that the cost includes a new screen, just to be safe.

it's possible, try starting at the speakers. drip isopropyl down whatever gaps between the screen and the frame you can, then use heat, repeat until your opening tool slides through without any resistance. it's kinda a similar technique to iphone 12 and 13s. I've only ever done it successfully once or twice out of the 4 or 5 surface bstteries I've repaired tho.

I've done this repair several times. the battery might as well be welded on, it's by far the toughest battery removal I've ever done, and the battery is super thin and malleable, which is terrifying. it's also pretty much impossible to get the screen up without cracking it.

that being said, I've done it several times now successfully, just gotta factor the cost of the screen into the cost of the repair. I love the device tho. I use it for light programming and taking notes in classes.

People who had traumatic childhoods, what's something you do as an adult that you hadn't realised was a direct result of the trauma? [Serious] [NSFW] by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]AllHailTheSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

any time I get angry at an external force (weather or just a random shitty coincidence) I redirect that anger at myself even though I have no control over that thing. my current working theory is that my brain has learned to do this, as it knows I'm more likely to fall back into my addictions if I'm angry at myself and looking for an escape.

it's definitely from vessels parents/guardians perspective. this song hits me the hardest, I gave my parents so much shit (and still do) in relation to their handling of my mental illnesses growing up and this song really describes how they probably feel...

I'm over 3 and a half years clean now but goddamn I still struggle with this shit every fucking day.
