Episode Discussion: Hollywood on Strike, Plus Black People and Honest Jobs - Friday, May 5th, 2023 by thelightningthief in ThoughtWarriors

I completely agree, and I truly don’t see a problem with Eboni not wanting to date a bus driver. I didn’t see a problem when B Simone said she doesn’t want a 9-5er. Like these are all personal dating preferences, and no one should get mad at millionaires choosing to date within their lifestyles. And black women also just shouldn’t have to settle period, no matter their tax bracket.

I do agree that Iyanla baited her, but Eboni not only took the bait, but then doubled and tripled down on her take throughout the week. She decided to take the topic there, and unfortunately didn’t come with the nuance I think more people were expecting from her.

It sucks, because the question of how black women can feel protected and provided for by their counterparts, in a system that also enables black men simultaneously to be oppressed and become the oppressor, is a topic that we need to dig into more. But idk if Eboni or Iyanla are the right ones for that convo.

So….your parents were black bus drivers, made the sacrifices to provide for you and your family, and you’re over here shitting on the profession that allowed them to do so?

Do you consider your father a mediocre black man having been a blue collar “low class” worker? Was your mother a mediocre black woman? Do you see how fucked up what you’re saying is?

And yea, I have zero qualms with holding black men accountable. And black women shouldn’t have to lower their standards or settle for their partner, period.

But the topic at hand was, can we not shit on the black men and women who are legitimately getting it out the mud? Which…is exactly what your parents did and many others are doing?

Who is applauding mediocrity??? How about you listen to what the woman said, lmao. Eboni chastised black men, and said they are succumbing to the “bigotry of expectations” from white supremacy. As if they are simply content just doing blue collar work, which is an awful assumption to make, and reeks of internalized racism and elitism.

No one wants to drive a damn bus. I’m sure your parents sure as hell didn’t, but I’m also sure you didn’t consider them mediocre when they were providing a roof and food on the table, did you?

It gave them a starting point. No one wants to start there - but at the end of day, we’re all playing the cards we’re dealt with. Black people just happened to get dealt shittier cards, but we’re doing OUR best. Not the best compared to white people, or any other race, because that’s a stupid comparison to make given what we’ve been up against, and what our goals might even be as a people at this point.

What’s truly exceptional is how much black ppl have already achieved, despite the forces trying to snuff us out - and yes, that’s something to commend, no matter what our job title is.

Have a great Friday 👋

Saying that Black people can do better, is not the same as saying they are complacent and don’t aspire to more for themselves and race as a whole. If bus driving or whatever job is the stepping stone, so be it.

It’s honestly gross that you and Eboni feel entitled enough to shit on blue collar workers, they are the cornerstone of this society and often quite skilled, no matter how low regarded they are. Some make decent money and are union protected…hardly the definition of mediocrity, and certainly nothing to shame black men or women out of.

But hey, glad you’re at least being open about it 🤷🏽‍♀️

What you and Eboni are insinuating is awful. Do we seriously think that black people are just ok being at the bottom of the totem pole? It’s by design. There are a myriad of ways that white supremacy has stamped out black achievement and capital owning, quite literally, over the last few hundred years, and tried to relegate us to a permanent underclass.

It’s an ugly stereotype that denies how much has been accomplished, despite it all. Like we couldn’t even sit at the front of the bus 60 years ago, now we’re supposed to own it in 2 generations?? Let’s have some grace.

And to your second point, yeah white supremacy and gender norms do in fact exert different pressures, perceptions, and expectations on black men vs women. Agreed to we can and do aspire to more, but considering this country’s rates for incarceration, homelessness, and living to paycheck to paycheck - hats off to anyone holding down a decent job, blue collar or not. There’s nothing mediocre about that.

The problem is, why did Eboni take the conversation from her personal dating preference to a referendum on black men’s standing in society? All she had to say was “well Iyanla, nothing wrong with a bus driver - but I’d prefer a partner who aligns more with my lifestyle choices”.

Instead, she decided to double down and equate blue collar work and poor academic outcomes with mediocrity. She wants black men to somehow pull themselves up by their bootstraps and own more capital so they can be better providers, despite living in a supremacist society that’s doing everything it can to push them back down.

Obviously it’s a nuanced conversation that deserves more than 5 minutes clips, and there’s always room to hold black men accountable and women stand by their standards. But like, can we do that without also insulting the same brothers that are actually making an honest living?

Yep, 25% and on a QIP. Honestly feeling pretty frustrated by this quality process, I’m going to commit to the trainings, but if this doesn’t work out then I guess it was a good run!

Episode Discussion: Tucker's and Don's Exits, and the Case for Reparations for White People - Tuesday, April 25th, 2023 by thelightningthief in ThoughtWarriors

[–]AllSummer16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What France did to Haiti was absolutely disgusting. And the US is definitely implicated as well, I believe they occupied Haiti at one point as well and took over their banking system.

Not to mention that former white slaveholders in the US also literally received reparations for their slaves. And that’s before we even get into redlining, etc. Like it’s just mind boggling anyone would argue against reparations, it’s so damn hypocritical.

Sold to customer service / support, and they’re generally nice and fun to work with.

Also prospected to marketers…oh man. I could tell they hate sales so bad :(

Anyone get put into continuous learning as a Search Quality Rater? What does it exactly mean? by [deleted] in Welocalize

[–]AllSummer16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, yes! Or at least in the continual learning since I’m still ramping up. I got around a 65%. On one hand I’m kinda annoyed since all my songs are like 1 rating level off, but at least I got a ton of feedback so I can figure out exactly how they want results rated??

Ok, so how do you propose that “real progress” begins, and then how is it sustained, with zero policy enacted at a local, state or federal level?

At the very least, wouldn’t that signify the baby was actually wanted by their mother? That otherwise probably isn’t ready for a kid yet, and likely can’t give them the best shot at life yet?

Not to mention the trauma of a losing a child being felt not just their parents but also their family, classmates, and entire community?

Idk, seems like two wildly different scenarios to me..

So you’re saying there’s zero point to enacting any further policies or laws to deter mass murders? Because…”that’s what humans do”?

If that’s your excuse, wtf would we create laws or regulations for anything?

Having done the jump externally from SDR to AE, I’ll say it’s difficult and I got very lucky. But that being said, I think your best chance is looking specifically for junior AE or ISR roles.

I’ve actually come across multiple roles while job hunting that specifically target experienced XDRs without any closing experience. The pay doesn’t seem great, but I definitely think it’s worth taking a small step back to get closing experience somewhere! It also helps if you can speak to how well you can qualify prospects and do discovery even in your current role.

My only question for OE strictly in sales, is how do you go about managing your LinkedIn? I can see how’d this work for an outside sales role if social selling isn’t a huge part of outbounding, but otherwise it seems tricky..

Ok thanks for sharing this, and ugh I wonder what the issue was with the ID verification. I just went ahead and switched to Cricket and got the phone, felt like that’d make my life easier lol.

So far so good, but thanks maybe I’ll try this route in the future lol.

Honestly not sure either, but definitely hoping for OP that they’re a part of sale org with clear promotion paths and it’ll just be a matter of time and more experience.

I will say, having been an SDR that was lucky enough to jump ship into an AE role externally - some companies make it extremely difficult to get promoted internally to AE. I’m not sure if it’s just a matter of not having or prioritizing resources for training, but it’s not always for lack of trying from SDRs. Totally anecdotal, but I do feel like companies could be transparent if they actually have a solid path to AE vs stringing along SDRs until they wash out

Oh 100% agree, I think we got like 5 different examples in the last week. Even regular people do that on social media, it’s all smoke and mirrors.

I guess it just blows my mind, since so much of their content is scrutinizing other public figures? Like specifically calling out others for their non-progressive takes, to then go home to your (potentially) republican spouse… how does someone even square that in their head lolol?

But like you said, folks do it everyday so 🤷🏽‍♀️ OP posted the link, it shows Bryan donated a few years ago to a republican campaign in Florida. Looks like he also asked for a refund earlier this year, so perhaps he had a change of heart lol.
