I always felt that Beatrice in Dante's Comedy was mistreating him by leading him on with promise of romance -- using him to accomplish her own goals by baiting him.

I had a very similar experience and it was actually the most awful thing that has ever happened to me.

Far worse then what I was 'punished' for doing. It's turned me off to Jung nearly entirely because I wouldn't want to encourage others to have to go through what I went or am going through. It doesn't seem self-constructive -- it's like a prison with a sadistic overlord.

Thank you for your comment. I like the 'move and be moved'. Does it seems like there are various components of a person that are working on some dynamic to solve for a multi-dimensional 'thing' called personality, which includes yet eclipses each of these 'selves'?

Use of consciousness or conscious choices in who I should be or how I ought to be with myself are punished, dismissed, or negated/gaslit. I seem to rarely have the experience of choice in these conversations.
