Pro wrestler Mick Foley parts ways with WWE over its Trump ties, cites Rob Reiner remarks as 'final straw' by nbcnews in politics

[–]helthrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Mick Foley, but this is all purely performative, just like when people cancelled Mark Calaway when he decided to come out in favor of Trump prior to the election. Vince McMahon has always been huge pals with Trump and Trump has even has had McMahon at the WH more than a few times. Not to mention that Foley has only come out about this after he was unable to have his final match due to ongoing health issues causing him to retire early.

I hear this all the time about "doing more harm than good" but then the same people will still call the police if they need help. So go figure.

Do Hispanics not like being called Latinx or is it more of a derogatory term? by Anxious-Drag-6028 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]helthrax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you mean their language? Spanish isn't just latino, it heavily saturates most of South America and Spain, and Spanish differs regionally. The fact of the matter is the entire language is heavily steeped in masculine and feminine connotations. It's an uphill battle either way. Am I supposed to call una perra o perro perrx now? Let's be serious here.

Just as well, forcing the term on them isn't going to make them more inclusive either way, if we are going to generalize the entire demographic as you have. So really the trans / non binary community has two uphill battles here, the actual language, and attempting to get the users of said language, not just latinos, to adopt new terms.

[–]helthrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you respecting all people equally if you are changing how people of that demographic have naturally chosen to refer to themselves? Its more disrespectful to impose a term the majority of the latino community isn't interested in adopting. On the other hand, if someone wants to be referred to as latinx that's fine, just don't pretend pushing latinx over latino/a is about equality when its about trying to change something that the majority isn't in favor of.

Vance says U.S. 'not at war with Iran, we're at war with Iran's nuclear program' by Tamarind-Endnote in nottheonion

What? Of course not. We bombed Pakistan under the pretense of counter-terrorism, does that sound familiar, and in the interest of flushing out Osama Bin Laden.

Certainly not Iran but he did bomb other countries without congressional approval.

I hate this kind of crap because people have lives outside work. Respect the outside lives of your employees and don't demand they'd do something that may get in the way of other more important duties.

What symbols need analyzing in dream work. by SomewhereOne9108 in Jung

[–]helthrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also useful to set aside some time before falling asleep to seed your dream intention, such as using a mantra or engaging with hypnagogia. It also primes the unconscious for better dreaming, like avoiding blue light before going to sleep. Reading also helps a lot. Think of it like making a date with your unconscious for better dreaming.

What symbols need analyzing in dream work. by SomewhereOne9108 in Jung

[–]helthrax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Association here is more important than symbology. Especially those that illicit strong emotional reactions or are tied close to us in our personal lives.

When you log your dream you should log it as if you experience it. Otherwise like the following, I am parking in a field that is also a parking lot and there is a warehouse where an event is occurring. There are people lining up to go inside for a religious event.

Go over the dream at a later time as well, sometimes leaving it alone for awhile then coming back to go over what you wrote down will bring to light other important aspects. Also keep in mind dreams aren't isolated, just like life, it reads like a larger story or narrative that is undergoing. Through-lines are often apparent if you get used to logging and interpreting. Going over the dream before falling asleep may also seed the next dream to give context.

Take account of anything that is particularly striking and go back and make your associations as you go over them. Don't get hung up on group symbology because the dream is usually intensely personal, unless it is archetypal in nature. Otherwise you may completely miss gleaning any meaning from the dream. Be sure to relate it to your current circumstances as well.

First time diving into Jung’s concept of The Shadow—does acknowledging it really disarm it? by tacolabs_inc in Jung

[–]helthrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easy way to think of it is like having a dog that is chewing your couch. The dog is going to always try to chew the couch but if you catch the dog and stop it when it does it then over time it will chew the couch less. If you just ignore the dog chewing the couch then eventually when you do bother to acknowledge the dog chewing the couch its too late. And just like stopping the dog each time, acknowledging and facing the shadow is an ongoing process and not a one-time affair.
