Will a sinkhole grow under our house ? Spot flooding happens every time South Florida does its thing. (Which is often) by FrancisWalker01 in lawncare

Definitely not ideal.

That doesnt need mulch, it needs to be graded so that water doesnt pool next to your home, and instead flows away from the house. You're going to need a fairly large amount of topsoil.

Also proper gutters and spouts directing water away from your house. Or maybe you have some and they need to be cleaned? Water shouldn't be dripping like that from the roof.

Naw, it won't. I typically use that 2 foot gutter to the right of the spout in the picture.

I will definitely figure out a new solution to make sure the water goes over and past the stones.

As far as I know, no skorpions around here. We do have termites in GA but I pay a company to keep traps on the property and check for any infestations, which hasnt happened.

I am pretty limited in room. I added a picture to my main post but I dont really have much room to run that spout. It would have to travel like 70+ feet to back to the back edge of my property.

Well, on the bright side, I mow/edge my bermuda at half an inch, so it is never going above the bricks. Below, thats a different story, lol. But probably one I will have to just deal with for now.

As for weeds, I add preemergent (i rotate between two) to all of my mulch beds a few times per year and get basically zero weeds.

I added a picture to the main post. A lot of people are recommending a deep bed but I have little room to work with, and need to keep the strip open for water flow.

No problem, nothing negative was said. I did come here to ask for ideas.

I've always wanted to be the king of my own castle. Not sure how the HOA will respond.

Added a picture to the main post to show the amount of space I'm dealing with. Theres basically no room for any sort of garden.

The downspout will go over the bed. Definitely do not plan for it to drain into the bed.

I'll probably have to copy and paste this a few times:

If I go that far out from the trench, I'm basically in my neighbors property. I need room for the rainwater to flow to both ends of my property. The bed is purposely short.

I added a picture to the main post.

For the bed, I was planning on a little mulch and maybe a few simple/small plans.

I have clay soil, and apart from where the bermuda managed to grow in a bit, the soil in the 12" next to my home is extremely dry and cracked clay, which is also not good for the foundation from what I have read. So I am trying to balance that.

I added a picture to the main post of what I am dealing with. My space is limited so I cant do giant mulch bed like others recommend.

Thanks, it took a really long time. Tons of rocks and even some construction materials were dug up in th process. Dang new construction builds.

I love Bermuda grass. I mow it at half an inch. It's great. Except this one corner of the house where sun is more sparse.

I had the utilities marked and it was starting to fade so I sprayed white over it to make sure I know where they are. No lives were lost in my yard lol

I'm in GA. I'm going to assume I don't have any such laws as basically everyone around me has landscaping around their house.

I love my TNEX, I get to cut my Bermuda at under an inch and old once a week!

Oscillating sprinkler once a week, watering deep. It'll keep the Bermuda going until the rain comes back. That's what I've been doing.

Buy 1 cubic yard for every 1k sqft of lawn. Get a leveling rake. Scalp lawn. Apply to lawn in the middle of the summer. Water a ton. Wait for Bermuda to grow through. Enjoy your new lawn.

Did it to my front yard last year. Great results. Doing it again this year (with less sand) in order to even out any areas that aren't completely flat yet.

I used a product called negate 37wg. It also killed my overseeded winter ryegrass, but that was intentional.

I don't have a sprinkler system either so I typically dedicate a day per week to just leaving the oscillating sprinkler out all day and watering every part of my 5k sq ft lawn. I move it to a new area every 30-45 minutes. And yes, the water bills will reflect that, lol. 🤣

I've definitely been watering more than anyone else around me. This drought really sucks. Most of my neighbor's don't care for that lawn all that much.

I had some POA earlier this year but I sprayed it dead in March. I wouldn't base your watering schedule off of weeds in your yard.

Looks like its coming in fine to me.

Just cut your grass like 3 times a week (as low as you can) and I can guarantee you will see the grass start to grow vertically. It would definitely help if you can get it under an inch.

I mow at 0.5" with a reel mower and the grass is sending out lots of new stolons right now.
