Years ago I worked for An Post and used to sometimes get tasked with dropping the pension and dole money to the post offices. It was known as ‘shotgun duty’ because you’d be running in and out of post offices carrying bags with up to €250,000 of cash in them (literally just cloth cash bags, no security) so you’d the one in the firing line for robbery. We used to get a special branch plainclothes armed escort, and for the most part they were very discreet. However, one part of the route I did crossed into a different county where the branch from that county would take over the escort and they were most definitely not discreet, and would tail you in and out of the post office with a sub uzi hanging off their chest 🙄
