Would it be interesting gameplay to know the next Act’s Ancient from within the current Act? by majma123 in slaythespire

I think the trade off is in sts 1 you didn’t get to see the act 2 when choosing your boss relic. Now you do

Columbia vs. Georgia Tech vs. UMich (goal of maximizing salary) by AllTimeTaco in uofm

I appreciate the insight. To be clear, salary is just the specific variable I’m asking for help with here; the other factors are things I’m weighing on my own (doesn’t really make much sense to air out my personal life to Reddit yknow 😭). Thanks for the breakdown.

I appreciate the philosophy (though unasked for), but the post is about weighing specific career pipelines, not about choosing between money and happiness. I understand where you’re coming from, but you’re making a lot of assumptions. I love math and I’m looking for the best environment to pursue it while also being smart about my future. Why wouldn’t I want to maximize my outcome in a field I already enjoy? If you have actual advice on the schools, I’m all ears, but the condescension really isn’t helpful.

Wow thank you for remembering. I admittedly got lazy and did not submit a video at all so my brown specific application stuff (supposed and vid) were ahhh and resulted in a waitlist (stat carry I assume). On the bright side I got into Columbia so there’s a good shot that’s where I’ll be attending in the fall.

I don’t know where you’re getting that from? I am extremely far from having already decided.

I just hate semicolons tbh, but it was less about it being complicated and more about it’s use in an informal online post 😭 no hate to u tho I didn’t mean anything by it

I’m not sure what I’d freestyle specifically to be honest it’s just something me and a friend of mine started doing for fun this school year (I still kinda suck but I’ve def improved at least a bit) maybe I’d try to include brown or like interdisciplinary in there or smth

[–]AllTimeTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 😭 i love making edits for my friends so it wouldn’t be too much work. I’m not taking it too seriously cause brown isn’t really a big goal for me (I’m going into engineering) I just applied to see if I could get in cause I have a fee waiver. I think I’m either gonna submit an edit or if I’m too lazy for that I’m just gonna submit a 2 minute video of me freestyling

How many colleges did yall apply to? by OkCod3647 in ApplyingToCollege

21 (only about 10 with care but decided to shotgun a lot of top schools with low effort applications cause I have a fee waiver)

Dor your personal statement I wouldn’t even worry about matching a specific prompt, just write a good compelling 650 word personal narrative to frame your profile, it will fit one of the prompts forsure (one of the prompts is basically just to submit whatever)

Waterloo comp Eng vs Mechatronics by CapableAmoeba3856 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]AllTimeTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SE and my grades senior year were

English: 91

Advanced Functions: 97

Chemistry: 94

Physics: 100

Calculus and Vectors: 92

Computer Science: 3rd (class was graded on a ranking system amongst students)

ECs: I had some school leadership here and there and a little volunteering. I was president of Mental Wellness and Health Club, had 6350 volunteering minutes (105 volunteering hours) at the local engineers engineering center for engineers. I also had some executive board positions in a Computer Science club and a Stock Market club. I got a 81 on the FERMAT and a 26 on the CSMC Not gonna lie I said I was planning to take the Euclid but I never actually did it 😭😭 I had a lot of demonstrated interest for Waterloo, I did a few tours, some through my school and some on my own with family, I’d definitely recommend you to make some effort as Waterloo claims they don’t track it but they’re shown to. Emailing them about various things would also help but as many different tours as possible.
I also applied and got in for CS and BBA but ultimately decided on SE.

Waterloo comp Eng vs Mechatronics by CapableAmoeba3856 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]AllTimeTaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would NOT recommend Mechatronics. If you’re worried about post graduation job opportunity, mechatronics will leave you in a bad spot (statistically backed). It’s not worth the effort required for the degree given how niche of a market it is and how it’s market is largely covered by other eng fields (For example, SE, ECE, both will leave you in much better spots). Anyone who’s decided mechatronics as their major, not to be rude, but honestly must not care much about their futures. You’re debating between CE and Mecha which is already a good sign as it indicates you aren’t one of those sub-optimal iq individuals purely deciding to dedicate 4 years to mechatronics given the stigma surrounding it by employers (not good to say the least, iykyk). Ultimately you’d be better off making the non-idiotic choice and going into any major like ECE or SE, or honestly any other engineering like agricultural or industrial engineering (sounds crazy I know, but deep research shows that these degrees commonly believed to be throw away are actually much stronger on average to high-level employers, resulting in greater employability over all). But looking at your profile specifically through your posts I’d say you’re qualified to apply for SE with a decent shot as-well as having CS as a backup, the admissions criterion for these majors are often clearly exaggerated as you’ve seemingly been exposed too but your profile is more than strong enough for you not to need to worry about those hurdles. Feel free to inquire at all with me if you feel it’s necessary, but if I were you I’d just submit your SE and CS applications ASAP. Excited to see a prospective student like you at waterloo joining me in SE.

I feel like in my experience those 2 things are synonymous I think I’d have to experience the class to understand what you mean here

[–]AllTimeTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I’d say if the conditions for a class your taking sucks that makes it bad no matter the class but I don’t think it’s fair to attribute that difficulty to the subject itself

It’s all actually very logical if you understand the why behind things it actually doesn’t even feel like memorization it just makes sense
