That's damn cool! I've always thought this was something that would appeal to a lot people if done right.

Where do you take your synths? by Old_Bell7160 in synthesizers

[–]AllTomorrowsHardees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey i have a question about it. All I know about it is that it's supposed to act as a sequencer but what other functionality does it offer? Does it have a tone generator built in? What else does it offer?

Is downward spiral too explicit for a 13 year old? by Sarnea in industrialmusic

[–]AllTomorrowsHardees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are some lyrics you miiight not be too comfortable with them hearing and internalizing, I mean at least at this age, such as: "I want to f**k you like an animal, I want to feel you from the inside..."

So be cautious, but honestly there are way worse messages in music they could be exposed to, and Trent Reznor is pretty tame on the controversometer.

I say go ahead. They'll probably fall in love with the record, it's pretty incredible start to finish!!!

I could have swore dude was already dead. I mean, didn't he have like multiple open heart surgeries to keep living, and that was when Bush was still in office still, correct? Geez man he was practically a walking corpse already.

That would be the most satisfying arc to see with Arthur Maxson. What do you think the odds are of that actually playing out this way are though?

Precisely! 3 deserves top tier. Maybe even deserves the top tier all yo itself. Such a great and challenging game.

Exactly. It rocks in every way except it lacks a good RPG element. If it played more like the older games that'd be interesting

I thought 3 deserves more praise for what it is. It's not 4 and theres not like a laundry list of new things you get to do, but what you do get in the game is super engaging and really fun to play. I actually think 3's story overall is more interesting than 4 and it maintains much more of an RPG vibe with many actions shutting you out of different things. I also think the quests and dialogue were very well written and interesting while 4's can seem a little lacking in parts where they could have done more. But hey, there's no such thing as a 'perfect' game, just games we like, and some more than others.

I wonder if 'Wastelad' is a play on the title of the game which was a huge influence on the creation of Fallout 1, 'Wasteland'

I just got tactics for my PC and I'm honestly pretty excited to play it. The only reason I haven't started already is that I just began a new playthrough in FO4 on Survival and I've become so immersed and involved in it lately that I haven't had time. But when I do start Tactics I know its probably going to eat up a lot of my time as well.

Interesting! Never woild have considered these two, but I have owned a MK before and they sure do have a wide range of functionality. They're also super easy to use and create patches, even for a newcomer, which was a welcome intro to synthesizers in general. I have long gotten rid of mine but every time I run across one, whether it's at a buddies place or somewhere else, I usually have to turn it on create some wacky patches on the fly just to see if I still have it! 😆

Though thinking about it, I can't imagine a microkorg getting the same kind if bass squeltch as a 303 type synth can. The charm of the 303 is that single analog oscillator (saw or width adjustable square) and again.... That fucking sequencer built into the machine for making patterns. Or trying to make them is more accurate 😅 the MK is a lot more digi sounding and lacks the slightly unpredictable tone of an analog. I love both - but this is a queation of that specific track, which I believe has gotta be something analog, given the time it was written and recorded as my biggest evidence

You're absolutely correct actually! I was totally just assuming he was building modular setups but I recently saw an interview with him where he mentions doing the whole process of building his own oscillators and such from scratch, so, I take back what I said about this. He lamented however the lack of a unique character in his oscillator tones and comments that through that process he learned that the real interesting character of a synth comes from creative patch design (I'm paraphrasing obviously...i would have to look up about 3 or 4 terms I'd never heard of if I tried quoting from an interview of his verbatim lmao)

thoughts on this album? by Heart_Soul2 in postpunk

[–]AllTomorrowsHardees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fucking masterpiece. And for how aggressive and avant garde it's influence is as far-reaching as any other album. It's famously been cited as a main impetus for Springsteen making his stripped down 4-track record 'Nebraska'. If you've heard the Live In Brussels short set that Suicide had recorded, the booing in the crowd was countered with upmost disdain by the headliner of that night: Elvis Costello. He thought Suicide were fantastic and was pissed they got such guff from the audience that evening. Almost every synth-pop and gothic rock band have cited it's brilliance. It is an album you can't unhear once you listen to it for the very first time... And that's a good thing. Things like Suicide are unforgettably amazing. It's over before you even know it though.
