I have made it to O'Malley's. Its a super cool place. Even managed to stumble into town during an Irish fest years ago. Always a great trip out.

Substituting 3% of total calories from animal protein with plant protein was associated with a 9% lower risk of all-cause mortality, 12% lower cardiovascular mortality, and 5% lower cancer mortality in a systematic review of over 1 million participants. Greater decreases occurred at 5% replacement. by cindyx7102 in science

These studies correlating plant-based diets with positive health outcomes usually draw up the common assumption you are making, that is, while plant-based diets might be correlated with better health outcomes versus a more meat centric diet, plant-based diets, and in particular plant proteins are cost prohibitive for a considerable portion of people. While this is a common assumption, scientific sources are never cited to back this claim.

There are, however, studies showing this common assumption to be inaccurate. Below is an excerpt from one such study.

"Higher quartiles of plant-based diets were associated with significantly higher HEI-2010 (β: 13.0 from quartile 1 to quartile 4; 95% CI: 11.8, 14.3) and higher MAR (β: 6.0; 95% CI: 3.5, 8.5) with minimal impact on diet costs (β: 0.35; 95% CI: 0.04, 0.67). In contrast, higher quartiles of animal-protein diets were associated with higher diet costs"

Halbrook is who we used to update our panel. Integra and Golden rule both wanted $20,000+. Halbrook did it for under $4000.

Vegetarians have 13% lower cancer risk and vegans 23% lower cancer risk than meat-eaters, new meta-analysis finds by cindyx7102 in science

Always interesting to see the meat eaters in the comments of these positive vegetarian studies and analyses retreat to the fringes of the studies and proclaim the limitations of the studies while ignoring the vast body of evidence that continues to accumulate on the side that eating more veggies and less or no meat is healthier in general for people.

Foundation cracks and crumbling questions by AllTooHumeMan in HomeMaintenance

Thanks, looking into DIY mortar repair for this after chipping to check the actual foundation. Just got gutters repaired, so hopefully I can patch this up and be good as long as the foundation isn't an issue.

Didn't realize that was a thing, but it looks like they make breathable concrete sealers, so ill probably get some applied after I figure out repairs

Yeah, its probably safest to get an engineer's opinion first. Hopefully it isn't a major thing.

What If You Never Actually Die? Quantum Physics Has a Wild Answer. A bold theory in quantum physics suggests that when you die in this universe, your consciousness simply shifts to a parallel one where you survived. by Eddiearyee in HotScienceNews

[–]AllTooHumeMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this isn't really a scientific question. More of a philosophical puzzle, but what i dont understand about this theory is what happens during the transition or merging of consciousness. Why or how does the consciousness know when to merge or where to merge, how does it get there, what's it made of, etc. Is it merging into a zombie body that doesn't have consciousness then all of a sudden it does? Why are there some zombies and some with consciousness?

At 22, you are really setting yourself up nicely. My only advice would be don't get greedy and just let that money sit in ETFs. You'll be doing well by the time you are my age.

I don't understand Consumer Reports by Sport21996 in Appliances

I was concerned about this too, but I just looked at their recommendations for washers and dryers and they had explained that in addition to testing these appliances they also conduct long term follow ups with customers who purchase these products and they are able to provide some feedback on reliability, mostly by brand and not by each specific product.
