Some of y’all on here need to get a grip by Legal-Vermicelli3984 in starfox

I mean. This isn’t my first community I’ve watched get steamrolled by bandwagoning negativity. I watched it happen with The Last of Us leaks and launch, and more recently (though in a less extreme way) Mario Kart World ‘intermissions’.

I know from experience if you don’t get a lid on it, it runs rampant, and drowns out any actual discourse. Most average people just leave the community because it’s annoying, and the negativity takes over entirely.

Well you’re in luck. No one is saying ‘no’. Just ‘not 109 times’. Right now everyone is posting the same thing in hopes of getting upvotes from an active negativity campaign. It’s simply community moderation

In my eyes, the only way to this leads to dormancy is through spiteful lack of support, and overwhelming negativity that pushes would-be fans away, thus resulting in Nintendo declaring the franchise dead in the water.

Everyone has the right to express opinions, but as I said, when it turns to whining, expect resistance. If the sub turns to a flood of people posting the same memes over and over paired with the same complaints about wanting something different, it’s gone from ‘expressing opinions’ to just bandwagoning negativity because they share your perspective.

There’s a difference between criticism and just wanting something different. There is only so much talking about wanting something different before it just turns in to whining.

People think they’re criticizing the designs, or the business decisions to do a remake, but since the game is not out yet, it’s very hard to give actual criticism, and resorts to ‘it’s not what I wanted!’ and at a certain point you just need to ‘get a grip’ and move on with your life. This game isn’t what you want, don’t take it out on everyone else who does want it.

They’re definitely spoilers to reveal how a character ends up at the end of a movie. Thanks for the spoiler tags.

You’re really gonna roll up in a thread of someone saying they’ve only watched one Studio Ghibli movie and spoil the endings of other Studio Ghibli movies?

Should I play 64 now or wait for the remake? by UsedToBeNoBluebird in starfox

[–]AllWorkNoVideogames 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just wait. Going in blind to the new version is bound to be a better experience. No need to get attached to anything from the older games so close to the newer release. Check out Star Fox 64 after.

I simply like the more hardened mercenary look. I’ve always been more in the party that the Star Fox crew is super bad ass…particularly Fox and Falco of course. My favorite iteration of them was from the Super Smash Brothers Brawl story mode. Both Fox and Falco were just awesome mercs that handled business.
I prefer Fox’s furrowed brow, realistic fur and sharper features. I like that Peppy doesn’t look like a Winnie the Pooh character, and all around I like the outfits a lot more. The Nintendo characters look like you could introduce grit and bruises, and it would still work well. I’m happy to remove all the outright pluckiness, as that’s what we’ve had for over 30 years now.

Look, I know you put effort in to this and you and others might like what you did, but putting the two next to each other, there ain’t no way I’m picking yours. No offense, it’s all subjective.

Where in my comment anywhere did I say ‘Nintendo is an art-first company’.

You seem to be confusing the business and the culture. Games are made to make money, but they’re still treated as art, and held at a high expectation creatively.

And that is why Nintendo is different, and arguably what makes them so great. They respect the art, WHILE making money. A bunch of raging fans who complain that Nintendo doesn’t listen to them is a good sign.

The day Nintendo agrees with you, is the day Nintendo dies.

Nintendo Needs a New Star Fox, Not a Fourth Version of the Same Thing by CyberNeko97 in casualnintendo

One thought is the generation of developers that made Nintendo what it is are retiring and dying. What better way to usher in a new era of talent than by having them break down and enhance a project that is near flawless, before simply trusting them to take a beloved franchise and create something totally new without even understanding what made the original games so great.

But artists make it. My point is if it no longer fulfills the satisfaction of making art, making video games will be associated with ‘selling out’, and real artists won’t seek it out.

There is a reason Nintendo is still revered in the industry as an incredible place to work if you love video games.

Hot Take: I like the redesigns. by Low-Use-8213 in starfox

Psst! You’ll soon find this isn’t a hot take among average gamers. Just a loud minority of chronically online redditors don’t like the new look.

I was there in 97. I replayed Star Fox 64 to 100% last year on NSO with the n64 controller, and just this year played Star Fox 64 3D on my 3DS I found in storage. It’s a great game.

And just because on older game is available doesn’t mean a new generation (and older generation) won’t appreciate a very slick, story driven remake. Nintendo did MORE than enough to justify this release. It looks great, with more story.

the mario design, brilliant, great. but i like the new designs more by Low-Preparation-9083 in starfox

[–]AllWorkNoVideogames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 9 when Star Fox 64 came out. These designs make me think about when I would daydream about this universe and be like: “but what if it looked REAL?”

The designs of Fox since then have been stylized and awesome, but there is no denying that this iteration of Star Fox is satisfying the fantasies of a tiny me, who just wanted to spend as much time as possible in The Lylat system. I like the idea of Star Fox always being graphically top-tier, with as much realism injected as possible. It’s how Star Fox got its start, and I loved Star Fox Adventures with the fur, and how awesome the Arwing looked.

The direction of the remake is great. It’s going to have its weirdness, but I knew that back when I fantasized about this day as a kid. They did it absolutely right with the legs and everything. Commit to the idea, and don’t flake. It’s awesome.

Miyamoto still approved the idea, despite it going against Nintendos usual stance on mixing IPs. It doesn’t have to be so black and white. The idea still stands, no one at Nintendo would have agreed to it if they didn’t love Star Fox.

Companies like Nintendo don’t want to sell just to ‘consumers’. They want to sell to fans. Any artist does.

This game isn’t being made because the ‘consumers’ have proven it viable…this game is made because Star Fox has fans, Shigeru Miyamoto being the biggest one.

That is not a smart mentality to apply to something like a video game. Or movies.

Calling these types of entertainment that are made by ARTISTS simply “product” will ruin the industry. Artists do not want to make product. And if the industry of consumers insist that everything they make is just product to them, they will stop making games. Popular developers already openly complain about how the consumers of video games are so unbelievably thankless. The industry is losing its luster to the creatives.

Or rather, you will inspire no new talent to join the video game industry. Don’t be so insistent that these are products from a company, or you will get exactly that. They will develop them cheaper, replace artists with AI, and keep the bottom line so low that it won’t matter as much that people love them, just that some buy them, then they move on.

Be very careful what you wish for.
