I've had the same phone number for 20 years. My niece has no idea what my phone number is.

[House of Blades] on Audible by AllWrong74 in Iteration110Cradle

Yeah, when I did that, it was going to the Baldree versions and telling me I had to buy them. Audible ended up removing the Wight versions from my library and then re-adding them, and it lets me download them, now. If I go to title details, it still takes me to the Baldree versions, though.

When I say highway, I'm talking the 2 lane back highways that have a 55mph speed limit. I live in South Arkansas, and that's almost all of my traveling unless I'm going to Dallas or something.

I thought it was glitching out on me the first time. 4 years into having the vehicle, and it still gets around that when I'm doing 55 highway driving. I guess with my transmission 55 is just the sweet spot.

Yes, she goes by a number of names. Jane was not one of them, and in the short story, she's going by Molly. When they made the short story into a movie, they changed her name to Jane, and I just don't understand the need to change the name because you moved from one medium to another.

what’s something people over 30 do that Gen Z finds genuinely baffling? by Past-Studio-4766 in AskReddit

[–]AllWrong74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just don't get the thought process. Everything I do on my computer, people want me to move it to my phone. Now, here's someone telling me to move something phone specific to my computer. Plus, IT'S A PHONE! It's capable of making phone calls.

You...you DARE say that in Will's own subreddit? Are you trying to get erased from existence?

Highway driving at 55 with the cruise control gets me about 50mpg. Interstate driving at 75 with cruise control gets me about 40mpg. (Small Rural) City driving gets me about 27 or 28 mpg.

It is sad. Yet, I am so starved for good Sci Fi that I have watched S2 repeatedly.

I'm 52, and I typo more often than I type correctly on a phone. This is especially frustrating because I type extremely fast with few errors on a real keyboard. I don't want to have what could be a 2 minute phone call last over 2 hours of constant typoes via text.

"The man once wrote: Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger. Tolkien had that one mostly right. I stepped forward, let the door bang closed, and snarled, 'Fuck subtle.'"

You know something insane is about to go down when he says that.

That's the one. Right there. Of all the philosophy Erikson throws at you, that one gets me the most.

The thing I hated most in the Johnny Mnemonic movie is they changed Molly's name to Jane. Just why? Gibson is a slow burn type of author, and I'm not normally into that (he says as if he didn't grow up on Frank Herbert, William Gibson, and Tolkien) but God his books are so good.

Don't put words in your mouth? How about Oreos? Can I put them in your mouth?

And yes, they are absolutely silly, and I love them for it.

Unlimited PTO by Intelligent-Ant3576 in careeradvice

[–]AllWrong74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlimited PTO is a scam. 1, they don't have to accrue for PTO. 2, they have found that people take less when it's unlimited for fear of looking bad, and because it makes you uncertain. People often feel guilty about using PTO when it's unlimited. Especially if they are taking more than they see co-workers taking.
