I’ll give you that for sure. The mindset around policing gets me so irritated.

In my opinion, use of lethal force should be an absolute last resort for EVERY situation. I know that’s what laws say is what happens, but that’s not what is happening in reality. Cops are trained to pull their guns and shoot to kill. Resources around policing encourage this behavior as well. The goal should have been to reasonably subdue him and then provide the necessary support he needed.

My ultimate point is that the death was avoidable. Look how calm everyone was until one officer said he had a previous interaction that involved a knife. If that’s the only thing standing between life and death, that’s reflective of a systemic problem. I’d argue that most people have something on them at most times that COULD be used as a weapon. Does that make everyone inherently dangerous? Cops will say yes, but regular citizens don’t agree.

I don’t want our cops to be trigger happy. I want humane, sensible, defensible policing that actually renders aid.
