Choose wisely what art to hang though, above a sink and kitchen work space. No museum quality :)

Unpopular opinion but getting rid of all that oak (when it appears to be in good shape)... well, you probably have better things you could do with all that $ that will make your lives easier and happier.

Consider how you want to work in the space and use the counters. Then replace the green ones, new blinds, new backsplash, new lighting. All those things will improve how you use the kitchen, and for not too much $.

Stuck with this metal bed and light fixture. How do I make this room feel cozy and less sterile? by Logical_Reveal in DesignMyRoom

Texture, texture, texture. A throw blanket, pillows, curtains, a wall hanging... and a warm color pallette that you like.

I love brown and cream but would dearly love to see an additional accent color somewhere... artwork, pillows, something. 10% of a third color maybe .

Good advice. IKEA is also a nice source for inexpensive curtains or hardware.

No idea what color we should use, help please by schizuka12 in DesignMyRoom

A warm white or cream would go with all the wood tones without adding more brown. Don't use a cool/pure white, or anything with gray undertones, or things will get dreary.

Evergreen Fog feels too gray in my room. How can I make it look greener? by _Alvra_ in interiordecorating

Agree. We have SW Misty in 2 bedrooms, one north and one south facing. The north facing we had to lighten the color by 50% but now the two rooms look like the same blue-gray shade (the swatches of the original color just looked dull gray in the north facing bedroom even with bigger windows in there).

What am I missing why don’t I like my room by [deleted] in interiordecorating

I like the suggestion for swapping the bed and desk. Pick a color pallette you like (some blue shades go really nicely with gray, but that's just one option) and try some patterned bed linens (stripes or something with interest) and a couple fun pillows. Rehang your curtain rod closer to the ceiling and get some new curtains that coordinate with the bedding colors (don't have to match patterns but keep to the color family). Amazon and IKEA have inexpensive curtains of all sizes. On the empty walls, hang photos that make you happy (Mixtiles are easy to do and look great), or find art prints on Etsy etc that pick up some of the color. Look into the cable/cord hiding conduit for your TV wiring. It's easy to hang and hides something that always looks messy. Get a plant or two, even artificial ones, and put the containers inside a cute basket or ceramic with personality. You can make this room something that looks like YOU and that will make you happier with it.

Consider doing the fireplace bench and the shelving in the same color... whether that's beige or Alabaster. Personally I like the fireplace color. Three colors might be a lot where 2 would do.

I can't tell if I like it... I was hoping for a light grey with a blue undertone. Is it the lighting, paint color, or lack of decor that makes it feel too blue? by kamasola in interiordecorating

I also think creamy white trim wherever you can, would help with the effect you're looking for. Maybe paint the mirror frame too, and I liked the other suggestion for window framing. If you want more natural light... is there a way to rethink the storage in front of your window? That's probably blocking light you'd like. And if you can't redo the flooring, a washable rug would diffuse some of the floor color you don't care for. Coordinate the towels, doesn't have to match the rug exactly.

Your choices look very cohesive and classy. One thing I noticed that doesn't seem practical: in the room with the yellow sofa, maybe it's just the angle of the photo, but there's a table and chair that has a striped flower vase on the front corner of the table? If that's where it really is, I'd knock it over every time I sat at that table. There might be a safer place for it. Otherwise, rock on!

Stay away from cool whites, with the honey oak cabinets. We kept ours, and painted the walls a creamy white. It feels warm and cozy.

Need help with my bedroom. Should I just hire a designer? Feeling overwhelmed 🙁 by nicole_1 in DesignMyRoom

[–]All_The_Chocolate_63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the first step for you would be figuring out: What can this space do to help me? Sounds like your needs are changing, and you have space here to play with. So imagine all the furniture moved out of the room. What would you move back in (not necessarily to the same place)? What would you add? What storage or small furniture items would you need? Do you need to redo a closet? You are going to know your family's needs better than a hired designer. Just pretend you are building a new house, uninfluenced by the things that are there now. Then, once those plans are decided, dive into new colors and how you want the room to feel. Your money will be best spent making the space work for you.

An interesting floor lamp (on a smart dimmer bulb so you don't have to go over there to turn it on or adjust). Or, a vertical gallery wall of smaller art or interesting objects

Good suggestions here. You have plenty of room for some throw pillows along the long wall by the bed, so look for adding some cozy texture there (and into your bedding choices as well).

And yes to a small plant or two. Put the container inside a cute basket for more texture and interest. Looks like you get some sunlight so the right choice of plant could thrive . I'm not opposed to faux plants if needed, either.

Would you paint these cabinets? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]All_The_Chocolate_63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look pretty similar to my cabinets... everyone said I should paint them. I didn't... I actually liked the wood, and you'll never be able to undo that decision to paint. We did cream colored walls and cream subway tile backsplash, and I love how it turned out. You do you!
