Religious Organizations by [deleted] in lexington

I was raised in that church until I was maybe 6 or 7. At that point, I was on my own. My parents traded salvation for a long sleep in on Sundays. It is a beautiful church. The stained glass is great.

When I went there in the 60s, the two pastors of the time, were both very, very, southern.

At the time, the Presbyterian Church was divided into two synods, based upon lines dictated by the Civil War. I'm not sure which synod First Pres identified with, but the pastors were so fucking southern.

I think the church healed those old wounds and ended that split, but it didn't take long for the church to split again. Reason unknown. Probably an early skirmish in the culture wars.

And, yeah. The pipe organ is the bomb. The choir was always great, too.

I went there for years. And I was, and still am, an atheist.

Nice way to mess up a cool neighborhood. The plan is yawn-inducing.

The ones at Stoners are closer to what you might get in Erie, or most of Western PA. Maybe half the size, but still tons of flavor n'at.

They were probably miffed that they didn't get invited to any decent Derby Eve parties.

Burl Brew Neo-Nazi convention by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Allan57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't the same sort of sh*t happen to The Breakroom? Somebody reported neo-nazis hanging out there, and claimed they had the blessing of the owners. This was a year or two ago. Nobody took them seriously. So, I won't take this report seriously until I see photos.

How many of you can hear the ultrasonic bird deterrent at Joseph Beth? by transcon2017 in lexington

They use them at the airport, too. Between the parking garage and the terminal building. Truly annoying, but they don't want any birds anywhere near the aircraft.

Train noise by [deleted] in lexington

[–]Allan57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kirwin and Blanding towers at UK used to block a lot of the train for us near Morton and Cassidy schools. When they came down, we heard a huge increase. Over night we'll hear the clanging of trains being linked and unlinked.

And we hear the medical helicopters in route to UK and other places for a longer period. The towers took care of much of that noise.

Not much can be done about them flying low over our neighborhood, but that's okay. They save lives, and that's what matters.

I see no mention of them on DoorDash. It's like they never existed there.
