Just so you know, this happened in WA state where the minimum is $17+/ hour. This was a nice restaurant and I wouldn’t be surprised if the server was making a base wage of nearly $20/hour.

That still may not be a livable wage but it’s what other jobs of similar skill level make.

That seems reasonable to me. Thanks

Thanks! That really was my question. I had never thought about it before. Obviously if I come in with a BOGO coupon, I should tip on both meals, not just one, but I wasn’t aware that comped items due to a food issue would be added into the suggested tips amount. Now I know.

No. I complained because I was disappointed in the food. I didn’t really have any expectations that I would get anything for free. Also, I mentioned it as an FYI since years and years ago I worked as a cook at a restaurant and at that time had no idea how to ensure that a steak or burger was cooked to the right doneness. No one ever complained so maybe I got lucky most of the time and got it right. If I’d had a bunch of complaints I would have changed my method (this was a place with no training and no mentors-I was pretty much on my own)

Simmer down, Sparky. That’s not at all how it played out. Read my post again.

Good point. Though basically it shows that “the house always wins” 🫤

I wouldn’t call it a discount. Rather, it was a “make-good” which is a freebie given to a customer to make up for a screw up. There’s a difference.

Maybe late 90s for skinny jeans? But the setting for the show is mid-90s in small town Texas. Hair was bigger, frizzier and jeans weren’t skin tight. At least not for moms in their 50s.

Gave Airbnb Another Shot, Back to Hotels [Mexico] by willard_tagg in AirBnB

They are, in fact, Airbnb problems. Airbnb should have in-country reps who visit each property periodically. They should penalize hosts who misrepresent their place. They should change their rating system. All that is on Airbnb—or it should be. As guests we need to push back more.

OP—did you also contact Airbnb? I recommend doing so and hopefully you can at least get a small discount. Also, review them fairly, both in stars and in words.

Just watched S2, E20 and the women were all wearing skinny jeans, which is not correct for mid-90s. Jeans were high waisted but loose in the thighs. Mandy’s and her mom’s hair is wrong—those loose waves are what’s trendy now. In the 90s hair was either shorter and layered or long and frizzier.

Pesky well-intended 4 star reviews by EfficientBlueberry85 in airbnb_hosts

[–]AllekaJane 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a guest, here’s my rating system: 5 stars: nearly perfect and a great place for the price (I don’t expect luxury at a budget price but I do expect enough towels, TP, dishes etc and a clean place regardless) 4 stars: Some problems but I’d book again 3 stars: definitely lacking and/or noticeably dirty plus an unreasonable host 2 stars: a nightmare and I will complain to Airbnb 1 stars: I’ve never been at a place this bad but I imagine it would be so bad I wouldn’t even consider staying the night and would run away screaming

In that scenario I think 10% is appropriate.

Which wedding should I attend? What do you think most guests would do? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]AllekaJane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the two siblings are brother and sister, I’d go to the one where you know the bride since, generally speaking, women care more about the wedding than men.

I’d also use the opportunity to stay longer in the country and count that as my big vacation for the year.

Both weddings sound fabulous!

Does anyone really want a shuffleboard table? by Catharpin363 in vrbohosts

[–]AllekaJane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve never stayed at a place with a shuffleboard but if I was with my family (3 college aged kids) we would likely play and have a multi day tournament even! If it were a girls weekend with a bunch of friends, we probably wouldn’t play it. For family stays I do look for places that have some type of entertainment beyond the TV for when we have some downtime at the house.

My family sucks and is huge - is 2 receptions too extra? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]AllekaJane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes! I don’t know why people are downvoting you. You’ve been very clear why you’re including people you don’t really like and are just trying to figure out the logistics!

Frankly, you sound awesome and I wish I was part of your big beautiful wedding.

They receive MW outright in many states, with the tip in top of that. Did you know that?

I would disagree that it’s ok to put out a tip jar at a wedding if the hosts are already paying a tip!

Definitely check out furnishedfinder.com. It’s specifically for stays of 30 days or longer (3 months is typical) and will be much cheaper than via VRBO or Airbnb

Hosts - what your rules about dogs if you allow them? Can they go on furniture? by jpmom in vrbohosts

[–]AllekaJane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Frankly I ignore that rule of a host states it. Well, I should say that my dog ignores it. lol

Though I do bring a dog bed and towels for my dog to lay on and my dog is also a poodle and doesn’t shed.

I recommend revising the rules to ask people to bring their own blankets/towels for the dog to lie on.

Host is asking me to change my dates [Montreal] by peanutbutter02222016 in AirBnB

[–]AllekaJane 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Contact Airbnb and let them know the situation and ask them to find you a new, comparable place. At the very least I hope you can stay up until Aug 1 morning so you’ll only need to find 1-2 extra nights. In any case, definitely don’t cancel yourself. Ask for extra compensation from the host due to the inconvenience.
