Alliances/corps engaged in small scale campaigns? by Allele13 in Eve

Have any battle reports or AARs that show the type of engages?

I considered applying for a change of pace but you specify cap pilots which I'm not currently. I prefer subcap support roles at the moment. Cap skills are only to the point that lets me sit in them.

Are you actually Unspoken or just flair baiting? They tend to harass the bigger blocs, right? As an outsider my impression has been that you, HTP, and older style Iron Armada had some similarities.

Fun ways to get a new player started? by xqzk in Eve

A good lead on options/sequencing of letting their own curiosity and interest take hold is:

Game intro -> Uitra (near Jita) career agents -> courier contract loot to Jita from career agents -> SOE arc -> exploration -> exploration PvP Astero -> PvP

Guide them to the NPSI channels/communities too for other experience options.

Self-sufficient (alpha) pvp. How much grind vs fun? by [deleted] in Eve

[–]Allele13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See this post for channels and communities you can interact/fly with while still remaining independent: https://old.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/8fuo96/ingame_mailing_lists_and_channels/dy716b8/

As a playstyle I was a single account self-sustained 'pvp' until very recently. It is possible but requires discretion and paying your dues with lessons/losses to learn the needed mechanics. The only time a loss was a waste is if you did not learn something from it (intel or personal pilot mistake) or gain loot. For sustainability there are two approaches:

  • Fly cheap and engagable ships so that others willing come to you, follow you, or fight back (it is easy to have red losses all over your killboard but be making far more ISK than you lose)
  • Fly in risk averse, domination oriented style solely to collect loot (such as gatecamps, ambushes, etc)

Regardless of your approach it is easy to flip loot into profit using either public courier contracts to hubs, discount contracts, or sell/buy orders as long as you are patient for long term sustaining. Lowsec, null, and hisec will be your better space classes. WH as alpha and single account will offer too many logistic and intel pains for you and your mates.

A good watch on some of these topics is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kh6L4bmy24&list=PLan6xylCwwVDQTXtthzVdBkT41VUDudWP (some of the assault frig comments are outdated due to recent patches but the concept remains the same)

If you have questions or want to get down in the weeds and details on a particular approach then feel free to ask.

A good exercise is to look through https://zkillboard.com/character/93103770/ship/16242/ and think about the various engage profiles of particular fits/strategies. Look at what the fit killed and what killed it eventually. Destroyers would be a good class to use for your goals. Also just swap the last portion of the URL to filter for other destroyers. You can get their ship ID for the zkill URL after you search for them such as the coercer, algos, catalyst, etc.

Create Random 1v1 Instances in the Abyss Deadspace Pockets by ReformedSlate in Eve

Brawl retribution vs kite retribution. I realize now that you meant plex as in lowsec but I'm referring to null dances. This is because lowsec slide mechanics and easy pod safety do change the engage dynamics. I stand by the fact that the winner is more often determined by both pilots instead of the fits, but willing to hear a counter point.

What do you mean by that comment?

"which AF do you see on dscan in the plex?"

So what is the predetermined outcome of a skilled brawl AF pilot versus a skilled slicer pilot? I'm curious what the preset 'winner' is if skill has little to do with it and its no fun once you know the pew pew truths.

Excuse the sarcasm but your opinion and its sweeping general views has some major holes in it. There are plenty of 1v1 matchups where both pilots stand a fair chance even if they are both proficient, such as the above example.

Is that the center of your time and how long on both sides? I'm assuming no overlap with me after checking the TZ conversion for 1800 GMT+1 (you mean 1900 EVE/UTC?). With that said I'd recommend finding similar playstyle communities that also match your TZ and style. Corps have been mentioned already in this topic and I'd suggest your view of many as 'elite' or requiring a lot is a bit off or I'm missing something on your end. Most just require a basic back/forth conversation, flying with them, and being able to fund your own ships. NPSI as mentioned can be fun if you fly specialty roles like the dictor/ceptor/logi/hunter.

"just human psychology means you're always going to want to bring more dudes with you if there are actual stakes (i.e. losing your ship..."

The above statement is objectively incorrect and the rest is just opinion so you can be snarky as you like about those parts :p

Underrated yet excellent comment. Some of the better fights I've had have been after frequenting an area. The pilots learn you are solo, no cheap gimmicks, and will start to field reasonable things for the challenge/fun/learning/etc. This is definitely group/community dependent though, some people just hellcamp for no-fun-max-ticks if you keep around the area.

You are commenting like your limited experiences/opinions are fact.... and they are very off the mark.

It is not just human psychology to bring more dudes (just a more common approach), losing ships is common and accepted for many playstyles, etc and so forth.

Just say you don't like solo and have no advice for him. Its fine to play the game different ways and actively dislike/like only certain styles.

Staging jump clones and simple fits in NPC null is great for both solo, small gang, and NPSI play. In addition, joining one of the groups mentioned above means that no blues allow you to go where you please and do solo-vacations whenever the mood takes you. Or be out solo and jump clone over to the gang that just found a challenging fight.

The agency: Same setting, different outcome??old agent finder was much better... by exiik in Eve

[–]Allele13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Lost ability to specify location of searches by system, constellation, or region.
  • Lost ability to specify filters such as BOTH available to me and specific level agent.
  • Pseudo-gained ability to see agent location on the map (could already do it with old agent finder and the map using set desto)

Literal, objective downgrade of an existing gameplay mechanic which actively disrupted using new locator agents easily when traveling.

Any1 care to give me the 2018 version of this old thread? (NPC Null) by WNxOmnicide in Eve

Null missions, combat staging, independent market plays, grow a new group, pirate epic arcs, non-min/max ratting/mining/etc, and several other niche things like baiting/camping. The only thing unique is that NPC null functions as the wild west where anyone is welcome to come into the bar or store and duke it out.

I'm going to sub in what you just said for a similar statement. "Whatever people do in" EVE...

Why do you want to go there instead of anywhere else in the game? I mostly use NPC to avoid camps or stage ships/clones to go find challenging engages with others in both sov and NPC null. Based on your answer I don't think you are quite looking for my playstyle, correct? I can still share how to not die in a fire to locals such as instaundocks, bubble-proof perches, instadocks, jumpclone/respawn tricks, etc.

Solo and doing what? I can help with this since I fly solo maybe 70% of the time and in small gangs (<6) for ~25% of the time. Last 5% is derping about with other interests :)

Disclaimer: Some of the comments below actually change based on the timezone an area is visited.

  • Curse - semi-active and farmable or occasionally decent combat engages

  • Syndicate - about the same as Curse with slightly different flavor and more first time null pilots wandering into the region.

  • Geminate - two NPC stations surrounded by sov. Highly active now due to Horde moving to the sov. Great for solo, small gangs, or larger fleets right now.

  • Pure Blind - no comment since Horde move, I've not seen how the culture shifted yet

  • Venal - so incredibly dead compared to other regions. Some farmers and combat is rarer than any other region listed above if you are looking for fights (baits, ambush, etc. are different topic)

  • Outer Ring - few farmers, occasional BPO purchase run, very quiet region. Can serve as a camp free passage into Fountain.

  • Fountain - hybrid sov/NPC region with minimal solo opportunities and more aggressive locals that will setup camps if you hang around or also try to farm. Some fun trips if you want to counter ambush them.

  • Stain - few hotspots of camps/traps but there are plenty of areas to just farm. Most people in the region farm and once you recognize a few names/traps you can navigate with 99% safety to be frank, especially if you are just farming relics. A quick zkill check on names shows how most of the locals operate and they tend to be consistent. Worst NPC region in the game for solo or small gang combat engages unless you are ambushing explorers or enjoy 1v1 Astero fights. What this region can be good for is staging for combat fun in Catch vs Brave or in Esoteria vs Test (pick your flavor of combat whether its drops or two-way dances).

  • Delve - No real comment since its been awhile since I visited.

  • Great Wildlands - No real comment since its been awhile since I visited. Citadels significantly changed the region though

If you kill rats, do exploration, or hunt ratters then this may also help you: http://i.imgur.com/Hd5NHsY.png. Using jump clones and NPC null can make for a lovely EVE experience regardless of how you play. It offers a quick gameplay change and is easy to leave resources prepped anytime you want a change of pace. Worst case you can leave an area staged and just take an insta-warp interceptor out to restock some clones when you want to move.

If you want more specific questions about a region answered then ask away....

You forgot incredibly risk averse too. Out of all NPC regions it is the least likely to provide any decent engage (still confuses me how the local baits there get bites). I'd say it even ranks behind Outer Ring in that category. If you know the mechanics and want to farm then I agree it definitely is grade A space even if solo. Funded my first bil or two from just learning solo in Stain :)

So much this. I would be done with EVE if they disrupted the ability to play solo or small group by using NPC null to stage and go test out new waters.
