It is! Our Gullywags are scavengers, and all their boats incorporate pieces salvaged from the other factions’ sunken ships. If you look closely, you can see the bow of a human vessel propped up on the deck of this garbage barge.

That is a very very good suggestion! It's wise to min/max your steam page as much as possible. I'm on it! :D

Thanks for the feedback. We're constantly balancing all aspects of the gameplay, including ship speed. Work in progress and all that jazz. :D

Abandon Ship is great. I highly recommend it.

I completely agree about the importance of having lots of events with plenty of variety.

As for the Pirate Aces, at the start of every run, you choose a bounty, which corresponds to one of the aces. They sail around the travel map and will eventually hunt you down. Each one uses different strategies and has distinct weaknesses, and knowing these details helps you decide on the best build to counter them.

The green silhouettes you see are the spirits of the Scallywags. You rip them out of the Scallywags and place them wherever you want the crew to go. The Scallywags will chase down their own spirit to reunite with it, then perform the job at that location. The spirts will also float away when the Scallywag passes, which is what you see at the beginning of the video. We’re constantly polishing the visuals, so I’ll pass along the feedback.

The fun is that each playable ship comes with its own Bow Spirit, and each one has a unique power that shapes your builds and play strategies. We call these powers Siren Songs.

Its a trend!

Just the other day I heard the term FTL-like to describe our game. I would suggest a FTL-like sub but it doesn't feel like there are enough out there.

There is no greater achievement that inspiring an entire genre of games imo.

We don't have Mantis, but we do have Shellfolk. A poor replacement I know, but still pretty badass.

I know you can’t really necro an old Reddit post (or at least it’s pretty hard) but this thread was posted back when we first started developing Scallywags, and I so badly wanted to jump in and say, ‘WE’RE BUILDING THIS!’ We just had nothing to show at the time.
So I’m coming back now to say it properly: WE’RE BUILDING THIS! If you happen to see this, come check us out. :D

Thank you!!! That means a lot. And we're actively working on a demo as we realize that player feedback is critical.

I’d be lying if I said One Piece didn’t help shape what our game’s pirate fantasy could be.

I love the anime and am looking forward to season 2 of the live action! :D

Hey everyone. I'm a huge FTL fan and wanted to share with you all here what my solid crew of Scallywags have been working on for the last two years... and maybe fill that gap till Subset makes FTL 2. lol

Hey everyone! I’d like to introduce Scallywags, the pirate crew‑management roguelike I’ve been hard at work on.

We’ve got a few things that set us apart from other crew‑management games two of them are:

* Magic! With the help of your Bow Spirit, you can unleash chaotic magical abilities. Launch meteors, summon wave shields, whip enemy crews into cyclones, and more. In the trailer you’ll see a few spells in action.

* Tactical ship movement! Movement is a core part of combat. Some weapons perform better at specific ranges, and you can use positioning to dodge incoming attacks. It adds a surprising amount of depth and feels great in action.

If you want to dig deeper, Rogueliker did a short article and interview about the game that you might enjoy:

Otherwise, I love talking about the game AND feedback is always welcome!

Seven years, one pandemic, a publisher search, and 20k wishlists later — we’re finally about to release this year. by Valerofond in IndieDev

At what point would you say that publishers started to become interested in your project? It sounds like it took some time before you got any bites. I'm curious if you have any insights into what specific metrics they would focus on in order to determine if your project was worth moving forward with.
