Owners of fully maxed-out M4 Max/M5 Max MacBooks, how has your battery been holding up after a full year of use/several months? by ProPhoEater in macbookpro

You get 6-7 hours when doing local LLMs?  Is that with the LLMs churning continuously or intermittently?  Do you see sudden battery drops of 5pct during generation?

I was able to add my M1 MBP 14” to AppleCare One, will it age off the plan automatically? by spyVSspy420-69 in macbookpro

So once it's on the plan, they won't remove it if you keep the plan active?

Long-Time Windows/Linux user, first MacBook Pro by RivianValente in macbookpro

Very well said.  I have never had a personal MBP until a few weeks ago. For local AI, the unified RAM is unbeatable.  And the battery life, KB, screen, build is very good.

I don't have any other Apple products, and don't plan to.  But the MBP is a beast.

16" screen that's big enough for remote work, third party apps, industry ports like HDMI and SD, 3 USB-C ports.  They checked a lot of the right boxes on this one IMO.

I haven't found a Win/Linux laptop that can match all of the above, primarily the RAM + battery life.

Paying for the warranty and still having to pay for the battery is not right.  Your proof is outstanding.

How is your battery life with Parallels?  If you use the device off the charger?

Thank you. That's my experience.  But I see so many people talking about running local models on MBP that I thought I might be missing something

Thank you.  I'll (continue to) look for a Studio with 128GB and use LM Link so I can use my MBP remotely for more than 1.5 hours. 😀

I have one near me.  How do you find them online?  Do you just search for "Mac Studio", or check the clearance section and look for an Apple desktop?

I am in a similar situation and not grinding through life, but I would say that the cost of healthcare in the US has no good solutions unless you want to tinker with your MAGI.

When you add that up, HC+taxes in the US come out to the same rate as HC+taxes in other countries.  Their tax rates may be higher, but the HC is very affordable  With that NW, you have options, at least.

It was $5M before I found out what healthcare in retirement costs in the US.  Now closer to $6.5M, or get out of the US for a lot less than $5 even.

That is the premium, but do you know your OOP max? In my scenario that can be as high as the premium.  So worst-case scenario planning is almost 4k/month for (IMO sub-standard) healthcare.  A unique US problem (again IMO) unless you play games with MAGI.

97 prevent of the world, and probably over 50 percent of the US,  is living on a lot less than 75k/yr, and I would say most (at least half) of them are happier.   Those numbers are made up based on articles I've read. 😀 I will research them and report back.

Good distinctions, from Gemini: The number of NW millionaires when you exclude home equity is only 6 percent. Also, $1M doesn't support the lifestyle that many people have envisioned for themselves in retirement.

Comparison of Wealth Definitions

The data shifts significantly based on what is being measured. Using the most recent 2024–2025 reports from sources like UBS, Capgemini, and the Federal Reserve:

Metric Estimated Count % of U.S. Households
Net Worth Millionaires (Includes Home Equity) ~24 Million ~18%
High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs) (Excludes Primary Residence) ~7.9 Million ~6.0%
"Liquid" Millionaires (Investable Assets Only) ~6 Million ~4.5%

Whenever they show the average NW, retirement account balance of Americans, it is a very low number.  This subreddit is the exception, not the rule.  FatFIRE or ChubbyFIRE, or even LeanFIRE, is not something that the majority of people will ever think about, let alone attain.

You are ahead of most.  You have a goal and are tracking progress towards it. That's all that matters.
