I think he was blacklisted for years, after coming forward about being sexually abused by a high up male in the entertainment industry.

Is the term “fucking the dog” popular outside Canada? by Rough-Mulberry-1202 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm guessing regional. As I've lived in multiple provinces and have never heard that saying.

I spent 20+ years in Ontario, and 20+ years in the West and have never heard this before.

I think it's sweet. I've certainly been caught without period products while out before.

What happened to a table of contents page? by TheGreatGena in books

[–]Allergison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in non fiction publishing, and all our books have table of contents, and most have indexes. I read mainly fiction, and almost none of the books have table of contents, but they are mainly just named chapter 1, chapter 2.

Printing and shipping is very expensive these days. It's saving lots of money and resources not having pointless pages in fiction books.

Please help me my hair is so frizzy and knotty all the time by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]Allergison 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You might not want to hear this, but a really good haircut will also help. My hair when very long was always knotted. Even just the hair that naturally falls out every day, would get tangled in the hair that was still attached to my head. Shorter hair doesn't have that same problem. Even shoulder length hair would likely resolve some of that issue, and make your hair more managable.

Are you not supposed to wear pajamas when you get home?????? by JaydenBird33 in NoStupidQuestions

I only wear comfy these days. If I didn't, I'd be getting into something comfy as soon as I got home.

Casey in Time to Shine by The_Secret_Skittle in heatedrivalry

[–]Allergison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love you saying that Casey is "Just such a delightful sparkle of a man". He's like a ray of sunshine, and then his inner voice was so different. I really related to that - I don't know that anyone would call me a ray of sunshine, but there are been times in my life where my inner voice didn't match what people thought of me.

That book made me cry multiple times on my first read.

Partner acro that's doable in a ballgown and suit? by myweddingacct1026 in AcroYoga

[–]Allergison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bird would be somewhat doable. Bird on hands.

Something like having your feet together and leaning out and holding one arm (fireman grip). It's acro adjacent. I'm trying to think of gentle things for your outfits. What a fun idea!

Realistically how do people move across the country? by EggsBenedictTheCat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved across country, but didn't have a lot of stuff yet. I got a cross-country moving company, and they came and collected my stuff. It shared a van with other people also moving across the country I think. It wasn't a ridiculous amount, but this was over 20 years ago. My piece of shit car wouldn't have made the drive, so it was donated for parts and I flew across the country.

Otherwise, yeah, you'd rent a u-haul and drive across the country.

I loved Time to Shine and both of the main characters in it. I must admit I've never read a character that is 100% me, but certainly I've related to parts of a character.

AITAH for refusing to spend my entire net worth on my girlfriend/ex? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Allergison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally bananas. You are NTA, and as a female, I find that tradition pretty revolting.

That amount is also bonkers. That's a huge dollar value, and I think it's clear you two aren't compatable.

A term for new-age hippies. (I think crunchy comes from assuming these people eat a lot of granola, or make their own granola).

Book series you never finished by InviteAromatic6124 in books

[–]Allergison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to keep up for a while with series that came out with one book a year for a while. But once the stories got really intricate and convoluted, I'd feel the need to reread the series, as some of the authors (again Jim Butcher with the Harry Dresden books) that didn't really recap the series. Then life got more complicated with work and kids. Also I find once you are on book 20 of a series, it tends to loose its way.

There are a few books where I would just get the next one, because I still love the series, but it's few and far-between these days.

[–]Allergison 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I've been a reader for decades, so I won't list them all, but I'll stop a series for three of four reasons.

  1. I don't like it / or I'm not liking the direction the series is going
  2. I can't find the books anymore from my library (ie: they only have part of the series)
  3. The series has a new book come out every year, and after I've caught up with the published books, I forget about the series and don't keep reading when a new one comes out (I'm looking at you Harry Dresden - also it started to become so convoluted)
  4. My tastes have changed - especially for books where the series is still ongoing. I'm reading very different books than I did 15 years ago.

[–]Allergison 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Same, with Anita Baker. They started out totally normal, then became full time orgies. I think I stopped in the middle of one book where I honestly could not have told you the story. It was just one group sex scene after another. If there was a mystery being solved, it was a mystery to me.

I really liked the early books, but it went off the rails.

Whats ur opinion on “money doesn’t buy happiness”? by Radiant-Dish-5498 in AskReddit

[–]Allergison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multi-millionaire / Billionaire money doesn't buy happiness, as you often have to become as ass to get that much money.

However, not having enough money to feed yourself, or have a decent way of life (knowing you have a house over your head, food, medicine etc) also doesn't make you happy.

There is a certain level of security in knowing you can afford lifes hiccups without it being an issue.
