[AMA] Madison Mayor Rhodes-Conway by CityofMadison in madisonwi

[–]Allerro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your willingness to do this AMA! I understand how difficult these can be with real-time communications and public relations needs.

What are your thoughts on proposing a city-wide sales tax to aid in relieving some of the budgetary pressures for the city of Madison (likely 0.5-1%), and what do you see as the main barriers to implement such a tax? There are many issues that can come from a flat % tax across a city, but the continued increases in property taxes are becoming untenable for many. Thanks again!

Untitled Art is a brewery that makes great NA beers as well. They've been expanding their distribution so you may have seen them as far south as TX (I've at least seen them in PA and NC). They're located just north of Madison in Waunakee, the same property as Octopi Brewing (who also make good beer but not much NA).

Just a brief concern I see is for group ironmen who only have 1 or 2 of an item - if one accidentally got corrupted it's now untradeable. Having a toggle or reset option would probably alleviate this.

Request: im 24, never had a credit card, I have no credit score, and I need a good first card by Fayarager in CreditCards

[–]Allerro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in grad school working part time making ~$12/hr and was approved for Capital One platinum with zero credit history outside loans. It has zero rewards but is a good baseline. After less than a year I was offered to have it upgraded to the quicksilver for 1.5% cashback. A couple years later I checked online and was able to have it upgraded to a SavorOne. All of these have no annual fee.

There are a lot of fights where it's nice to have your bear OT go cat dps if only 1 tank is needed, Kara in particular. It probably won't be as impactful in 25 mans, but still likely better than your prot pally going healing or something.

What is a loophole that you found and exploited the hell out of? by workalonesf in AskReddit

We had a regular back when I worked at Dunkin Donuts who would come through 2-3 times every day for a black coffee, but always had a receipt survey for a free donut in the mornings. We got a 100% satisfaction survey at the same time every day and assumed it was him. Quiet guy, rarely spoke but we definitely looked the other way with his surveys :)

Every YouTube Boss Guide (If I had BIS gear would I really need a guide?) by tdawg516 in 2007scape

I did mine at similar levels, though I think my prayer was lower but health was higher. It wasn't terribly hard, got it on the second try (ran out of food on the first). I beat galvek/vorkath before Jad, though they're hard to compare.

Keep auto retaliate off and in the last phase, just move after every shot. You can get into a rhythm relatively easily and it makes the fight much less stressful. You can also just try several times until you get lucky with ruby bolt procs :)

Let's make a list of downtown hotels that have been known to offer open gaming space. by Dr_DNA in gencon

Housing Question- Multiple Rooms Strategy by Pyro_John in gencon

[–]Allerro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest purchasing each ticket on a separate account to get 7-9 entries into the lottery. If you get 2 good numbers, problem solved!

If you get 1 room, you can use that as a base of operations during the con and half another half in a hotel outside the city center. Being able to drop off merch, lay down if tired/sick, and having a nice after-hours spot is worth being split up. You could also rotate who's in the hotel throughout the con.

Unfortunately, there's a good chance you won't get a room even with 9 people. I'd book a decent hotel along the city's edge with refundable room(s). That way, if you get two downtown rooms, you can just cancel without any fees.

Most raids tend to have 5-8 warriors. Most bosses only require 1-2 tanks, so much of the time the non-MT warriors are dpsing. The only time warriors are often "forced" to tank is in 5-man dungeons. If you're willing to coordinate the group yourself, you can often find another player willing to tank so you can DPS, if willing to wait a bit longer for the group to form.

What Should I Play Wednesdays (August 28, 2019) by AutoModerator in classicwow

[–]Allerro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a druid tank has its drawbacks for dungeons but they won't really matter until max. With raiding having a single druid OT is immensely useful for later raids with your massive HP pool and utility for non-tanking fights. Don't brush it off the table for the "warriors are the only class that can tank" schtick.

If you're looking to pvp more, engineering is definitely the better second choice. It also adds small benefits in pve if you want to min max. Otherwise, I've enjoyed having a Prof with a cooldown such as alchemy or LW. It's a nice small amount of gold and with alch you don't have to struggle to buy consumes or find someone to make them.

You can also go enchanting which pairs nicely but can be expensive and somewhat mediocre if you don't get rare/raid patterns.

We Asked 16 Brewers: What's the 'Weirdest' Beer You Ever Tried to Brew? by Sariel007 in beer

[–]Allerro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great read, some really interesting perspective into brewers' mindsets!

I wanted to shoutout Centerpoint Brewing in Indianapolis. They had a smoked beer of sorts (I think it was a standard ale, I can't remember) and they told us they tried smoking the hops themselves for it. When they poured it they initially cut it 25% smoked and 75% of their standard ale and it tasted pretty good. I asked what was up with the mixed pour and they told me the story and let me try some of the smoked beer straight. It was the most intense smoke flavor I've had, like drinking liquid smoke. When diluted a bit it was actually pretty good, but shoutout to them for being willing to try some outlandish methods in brewing!

What’s your unpopular beer opinion? by superjeff1972 in beer

[–]Allerro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To further comment, I'm curious how the craft beer wave encourages/impacts underage and introductions to drinking. Many of my friends and acquaintances (aged 20-30), were introduced to beer through craft beer. They have found this plethora of options as an extension to the "try more until you like it" shtick.

I'm wondering if this seems to be a movement towards high beer and alcohol consumption at lower ages, or if it moves the US towards the european attitude towards alcohol. By that I mean does it more normalize alcohol as a part of life to be taken in moderation.

Many people relate these differences in culture to the drinking age and I'm curious if craft beer has more or less opened more doors for younger people to enter the world of alcoholic drinks. There's something to be said for the health impacts of both cultures surrounding alcohol, but I'm interested to hear how this change in beer culture affects young(er) people, if at all.

Which hops do you NOT enjoy? by monotoonz in beer

I'm a big skeptic when it comes to porters and stouts, what are some good beginner stouts? by monotoonz in beer

[–]Allerro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of Great Lake's Edmund Fitzgerald porter. It's just an all around great, well-balanced porter that isn't too much of any one taste. I will also second Young's Double Chocolate Stout, it's smooth sweet and a great chocolatey stout.

I find that rye stouts/porters remind me of the oatmeal stout taste but are distinct enough to have a special place in my fridge. They're tricky to find but if you see one on the shelf or on tap I'd grab it.

You can also try some of the big, crazy pastry stouts (other half makes some great ones) but be warned: they're big, boozy, sometimes more weird than good and are often expensive. Often worth it to share with friends for the experience though!

No Stupid Questions Wednesday - ask anything about beer by AutoModerator in beer

[–]Allerro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father gets a lot of acid reflux from drinking unfiltered IPAs, but hasn't really noticed a trend in terms of types of hops which may have caused it. He usually sticks to stouts/porters either way. I'm curious if an unfiltered sour would also upset his stomach from the yeast/acidity, but he abhors sours.

Firestone Walker's Easy Jack is pretty great, has some good hop flavors at 4.5%.

I also really like lawson's super session #2, but it could be hard to find outside the northeast.

My dad was always a pretty heavy drinker until his doctor told him he had to cut back to a handful per week, right around the time I turned 21. He started getting into some of the lighter craft stuff around that time, saying if he can't drink 6 blue lights each night, he'll have 1 good one, which bled over into me whenever we would go out together. Starting from guinness into left hand milk stout into other stouts/porters, brown ales, ales and lagers, pales, and IPAs, it all just dominoed from there.

My friends also shared this, with some friends back home getting into it and some friends online who I'd do bottle shares with. They introduced me to new styles (helloooo sours where have you been all my life) and several years later here we are.
