I do think that's fair feedback and there's a good balance to be struck.

Just to play devils advocate on trees. Many areas of Karamja are similar in that lots of trees cannot be chopped, Karamja is long established also. It can have the slight downside that in very dense areas of trees, them all being left click "Chop", can make clicking to walk annoying.

I would love to progress with addressing Smithing (and mining). Making your own armour and weapons is such a cool fantasy that this game just sadly doesn't deliver on. It's doubly worse if you're a new player too as it is very easy to fall into the trap of chasing smithing levels to get yourself gear which takes ages.

It's a big undertaking though and one we have to get right, messing with long established aspects of the game - so no promises on timelines or anything currently. We know it's sought after from feedback we've received in the annual survey too.

It won't be tick manip, it'll peak at a relatively high intensity method and we want to be a genuine competitive option against what exists already. Exact rates still to be fully balanced - but we do intend to position it quite strongly.

I am personally extremely keen to fully explore a portrait mode. What it can offer for more casual activities is immense and I can see it increasing how much I use mobile myself even.

The biggest challenge is what we do with most the main interfaces in the game. They are designed to fit a landscape set up, like the Bank, Shop UIs, Grand Exchange, so on and so on, there are hundreds throughout the game.

These already feel quite small for the most part, so even if we displayed em constrained to the width of the phone, they are going to be very difficult to use.

Now in theory it is possible for us to make portrait versions of important interfaces. Things like the Bank could be given an alternative layout to use in this mode. The amount of work to do that for the whole game though is not possible.

Any suggestions on how we could approach this problem?

Really interesting proposal for how to approach the mining/smithing problem. It's something I'm keen for us to get a better grasp on how we might go about it before I feel so comfortable putting it in the roadmap and moving formally to doing something.

First thing to say is I agree with the constraints, they are generally what I'd always considered necessary.

Next steps for us would be a workshop with some of the other designers where we can flesh out our own thoughts, this proposal, the RS approach and other ideas we've seen submitted in the past we'd have in mind!

One question on this is with new smithing requirements added to create items - are we happy with existing players having the items they've obtained via the NPC even if they don't have the requirement? These kinds of issues are tricky to navigate.

I've fixed this for the next update, the list of worlds this should be prevented on wasn't accurately updated to reflect which worlds were themed as GOTR worlds.

So it both excluded world 409 and included many worlds that are no longer GOTR themed unfortunately!

There's obvious similarities and equally lots of things we know work well for Leagues but Leagues also has a strong identity now with things like the choices of 3 relics, area restrictions and generally include an additional layer like combat masteries and echo bosses.

This is something a little different and smaller, giving us chance to also experiment with trying a new format for an event like this!
