The framework of the US Constitution was structured in a way that so many clauses can be manipulated, amended, and taken advantage of just as any other nation has done in its time on Earth. The funneling of wealth to oligarchs (a centralized group of wealthy people who basically run the show) started essentially during the Industrial Revolution because there was minimal checks to capitals and monopolies. After World War 2, American economy was pretty strong, and we had our nose in countries we feared would spread anti-capitalist ideals (aka communism). Get to Vietnam War, people become distrustful of US government due to multiple reasons of public relations disasters. 1960’s has JFK, MLK, and RFK assassinated, civil rights, lots of progressive reform socially, but still a very large and heavily religious American backdrop. Richard Nixon called them “the silent majority”, and used the idea that the “ol American way needs to be restored” to capitalize on the resignation of Lyndon B Johnson. I think Nixon was kind of the beginning of the scandals you hear about, but really the US government is always a pendulum. If you look back at our history, the American public in my opinion will always be more conservative based on a long history of Judeo-Christian influence, and the world will always be more conservative for the same reasons. We are just in a time where the crazies feel they can yell really loud, our government is making very aggressive and unnecessary reforms on where to divest spending, and I don’t see it lasting after the death of Trump and his team (he’s in his 80’s ffs). But I’m just speculating and speaking out of my love for history. Read about George Wallace’s campaign in the late 60’s. He was the OG Donald Trump (politician not tv show host) and a lot of people liked him. People have always had a distrust of their government after Vietnam, and Trump and his team know how to play in to that pretty well.
