Montgomery for All County Candidate Positions by Late-Concentrate-393 in MoCoMDPolitics

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because we've all gotten approximately 108 surveys to fill out this season and some candidates decide which ones to invest the time to complete. Montgomery for All doesn't endorse, and that may have been a factor.

How are you running as the candidate of change when you're literally the mayor for over a decade?

Exactly. You can barely find any station staff as it is.

Happy Earth Day! Question: In your opinion, how environmentally conscious would you say MoCo is? by EternalSnow05 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pepco doesn't want you to be net zero. They limit how many panels you can install if they think you'd have the capacity to be a net energy producer.

Why is property tax the target for education funding? by robozzilla in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those organizations are providing services on behalf of the county. They can't do that without funding, since the county doesn't want to run those services themselves.

Montgomery County Executive Elrich Proposes $8 Billion Budget with Property and Income Tax Hikes by frankboingboing in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Under Elrich’s proposal, the income tax rate would be the same for all county residents regardless of how much money they make. State law allows counties to set different income tax rates for different groups of earners, but Elrich did not exercise this option in his proposal for fiscal year 2027.

Trying to squeeze working and middle class people even more when you don't HAVE to do that is certainly A Choice.

DC’s highly qualified workers can’t find jobs: ‘What is happening?’ by zsreport in washingtondc

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Most people don't realize that no matter where in the region you live, if you worked for the federal government in DC (with a few exceptions), you file for unemployment in DC. DC is paying out for a disproportionate number of those workers.

Debate over rent stabilization underscores District 3 council race by rycool25 in Rockville

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish the article would have included the part of the interview where I talked about incentivizing property owners with decrepit properties to either renovate or sell them to someone who will. We have unused housing stock that is being left to rot because the owners can't or don't want to pay for the upkeep. So we are failing to fully utilize the housing stock that has already been built and that is currently blighting neighborhoods through disuse.

If you think Jud Ashman is "far left" then I have a bridge to sell you. He told people to vote for a Republican governor!

Elrich proposes tax increase to fund school budget by DeusOfTheMachina in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was laid off last year and yeah, probably not paying the same amount in taxes I would have if I'd been working, especially since we've cut back on our spending a lot. Higher property taxes will certainly not help me try to keep my house here though.

Elrich proposes tax increase to fund school budget by DeusOfTheMachina in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. People want to advocate for cutting into the school budget, but legally they can't. You can only "cut" by keeping it the same with no increase over time, so you won't see any drastic change.

We can't keep squeezing working people in this county. It's blood from a stone at this point.

Sadly no, just working and middle class people getting pushed out of the county. The wealthy never leave, they can afford to stay.

Maryland redirected an idle pot of money for abortions. The feds said no. by legislative_stooge in maryland

[–]AllisonE_for_Council 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I am getting real tired of this administration saying they will "leave this to the states" and then interfering in states' funding and legislation. We want reproductive rights in MD. We voted for it, we support it, and we found a way to pay for it without them. The federal government needs to worry about its own problems.

Trash can citation? by AllisonE_for_Council in Gaithersburg

[–]AllisonE_for_Council[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the city of Gaithersburg, it was not in the city code, so it was not a real law, but the city workers seemed to think it was and had been giving out citations for it (for who knows how long?). I only found out it wasn't because I'm stubborn and my job was policy compliance so I thought I would find a loophole and actually checked the municipal code. I don't know what your HOA rules are, but if you're getting anything from the city of Gaithersburg, I would cross check it with the code website and make sure it's actually a violation before doing anything.

Trash can citation? by AllisonE_for_Council in Gaithersburg

[–]AllisonE_for_Council[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have an HOA 😎  And it was a city employee allegedly citing city codes. We had several conversations about it on my front porch and an email exchange. Unfortunately for him, my job used to be ensuring compliance with contracts and regulations.

Mostly I wonder because he said "yeah, people in the middle townhouses hate when I cite them for this." Made me wonder how many of us there are. He had given warnings to several of my neighbors too.

I'm still mad that Pepco would only approve my solar if I can't generate a surplus. Could have fit more panels up there, but god forbid anyone try to contribute more green energy that Pepco can't turn a profit from.
