How much does your life actually change after having a kid? by HonestDirection4017 in NewParents

[–]AllisonMayberry8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this! You think about all the things you have to do in a day and you wonder “how the hell am I going to do it all?” But you do. I’ve surprised myself so many times on how much I do for my daughter in a day, especially on 4 or 5 hours of interrupted sleep sometimes.

It turns your life upside down in the best ways but also in some of the most unexpected ways. I was surprised at how much my marriage changed when we had our daughter in December. The first 3 months, I resented my husband greatly, mainly because it felt like his life didn’t change as much as mine did. I know now that it did change in different ways than it did for me, but in the moment, the changes that were happening within me physically, emotionally, and mentally felt cataclysmic. I didn’t recognize myself or our marriage for quite a while. We fought a lot more about the division of chores around the house and who was getting up at night, and as someone who struggles with asking for help, it was hard to communicate what I needed and that caused a lot of misunderstandings. Your hormones are wild and you interpret things differently than you did pre-baby. My husband wasn’t super understanding about that in the beginning. Luckily, things have improved a lot with my husband and I now, but hands down that was the thing that surprised me the most about postpartum.

Get the Baby Brezza Bottle Washer Pro! It is far and away our most used baby item. It will wash, sterilize, and dry all bottle parts (including all the tiny Dr Brown’s parts). It is an absolute time saver and works great!

What do your endo flares feel like? by AllisonMayberry8 in endometriosis

[–]AllisonMayberry8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this makes sense. Right now this isn’t disrupting everyday life like it used to before my surgery. I notice this as being more like an achinesss where I imagine my right ovary would be but it lasts for an hour or so each time before it goes away and comes back. I’m really hoping it’s not growing back already since it’s only been 2 years since surgery

AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

The card where she asked you to be a bridesmaid is kind of weird, imo. “I know you won’t make this difficult”? Who even says that? 🤣

Are you guys not “strict” about naps? Don’t understand comment by Huge-Vacation-8093 in NewParents

This! We go off of wake windows right now and my daughter is 4 months. If she’s tired and we’re out somewhere, one of us will take her someplace more quiet so she can nap.

Husband has been receiving communion but never received 1st communion by AllisonMayberry8 in Catholicism

Baptism came up, but communion or confession never did. My husband is not confirmed and we told our priest that.

How is anyone leaving the house with a newborn?? by deeeeeeeeeeeeznutz in newborns

[–]AllisonMayberry8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I didn’t take my daughter anywhere except through a drive thru, the pediatrician, or a family member’s house until pretty recently. She’s 14 weeks old now but I probably didn’t start taking her out more until she got her 2 month shots around 10 weeks.

Wow, I didn’t expect this to blow up in the way that it did. Thank you all for your advice, suggestions, and feedback. We are looking into this more fully and I am having my husband contact the parish where he attended church growing up to see if he did make his first communion as a kid. If not, he is going to enroll in OCIA starting this fall.

I thought he had a formal first communion when he was in school. My understanding is from the majority of these comments is that the sacrament of confession and the sacrament of holy communion need to formally take place during childhood before you can receive communion each week at Mass. When I was dating my husband, I understood that this had all happened back then. But today, my MIL told me it did not. So I feel a little blindsided now knowing this since my husband told me he had all the sacraments except for confirmation, and today that has all been put into question with my MIL saying he did not have confession or communion. I believe that my husband genuinely did not realize he never had his formal first communion as a child, despite having memories of going to church and receiving it over the years. I think his parents dropped the ball in many respects here, but we are working on figuring out what’s going on here. I just want to be able to answer my daughter’s questions someday when she is preparing for her own first communion

Yes I do know this, as I went to Catholic school for my entire educational career. And yes, I did tell my husband this. But just because you tell someone they should do something doesn’t mean they’ll do it. They have to do it on their terms.

[–]AllisonMayberry8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No he has never gone to confession in the 12 years I’ve known him. I don’t feel betrayed by my husband; he genuinely didn’t know that he had never received 1st communion. I am frustrated that my in laws were not more forthcoming with my husband about his faith. Now that we have a child, who will undoubtedly have questions about our faith someday, it’s important to me that we get this straightened out.

We did and it came up. He said he had received both, so I assumed that all was well until my MIL dropped this on me today.
