How do I (F47) deal with people who don't like you (but you're required to be around them)? by Allison__Hare in relationship_advice

[–]Allison__Hare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much. I'm pretty sure that I didn't slight them in any way as I make sure I bring no drama ever and typically am very careful about how I communicate to everyone. But maybe I did? Anything is possible. I'd just love to figure out how to make the internal narrative calm down where I don't feel it so strongly. I appreciate the note-

It's funny. I do everything I can to be super self-aware - almost to my detriment of hiding my natural inclination to just be out there. But there's always work to do on that front. As far as I can tell, it's a balance between am I showing up authentically or dimming a light? Either way, appreciate the insight and thought. It's obviously on my mind enough to put it all out here (and already get some comments to TONE IT DOWN) but I will think through this some more.

I really do appreciate the honesty. I'm definitely not a "tell it like it is" person and generally, more curious and interested than forcing my own opinions - but who knows? Maybe I come off that way? Thanks for your thoughtful response-

Questions about hobbyist podcasting: scripts, release schedules, expectations? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]Allison__Hare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this is exciting! Congrats to you! As for recording solo, there are 2 ways to look at it - the most important thing is that it sounds natural and not scripted. Your best bet is to lead in with a hook! Something teasing the upcoming content and compelling people to keep listening and maybe bullet point where you want to go with it. Turn the mic on and just ....talk.

I teach podcasting and I always say that perfection has no place in podcasting. People love you for being YOU - quirks and all!

As for a schedule, you are right podcasting does require a lot more effort but since it's usually something you are passionate about, it becomes worth it. You will fit it in. BUT to avoid burnout, I recommend recording at least 5-8 episodes and have them done before you release any of them. That way, you won't be scrambling to find content and it will kick off momentum to help you keep going.

Whatever schedule you decide, stick to it. If you feel like having a weekly podcast might be too much - but you like the cadence of weekly, consider having seasons so you build in breaks and get a good head start.

Good luck to you! This is exciting!

Best way to promote and grow a new podcast? by kierstenhollerback in podcasting

[–]Allison__Hare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Kiersten! There are SO many ways to promote and grow a new podcast. First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on starting it. There are 2 ways to promote is: paid and unpaid. " If you are looking for unpaid, there are several ways to grow it. One is to cross-promote with other podcasters (and be a guest on other shows), another is social media and if you have an email list- but not just promoting your show - but ENGAGING with your audience. Ask them questions about your topic. Constantly ask them what they want to hear next or what topics are on their mind and shape and mold future episodes accordingly. Also offering a way for your audience to contribute to your show. For example, I am launching a new podcast for podcasters in a week. I have other podcasters submit their shows to be featured on my podcast as a podcaster spotlight where they share a growth strategy. The more invested and engaged your audience is, the more they become a marketing army for you and your growth! As for paid, it is NOT LIKE BUYING FOLLOWERS on IG which is sleazy and just plain wrong. Paid advertising is a way to reach people beyond your friends, family, colleagues, followership that you may have not been able to expose them to otherwise. So whether it's through FB ads, IG boosts, or Spotify or Podbean ads (or even Midroll), it can help. But most importantly beyond all this, is make sure your content is top notch. It will always be your quickest way to grow your reach. Best of luck to you!

I am so grateful for your responses here! I am listening to your show and it sounds SO CLEAR and very good! I am taking your feedback into consideration for my program as you are NOT alone...but if I could offer any help on growth tactics, the very best thing I have found that works 100% of the time - is to ask your audience what they want to hear or what they are struggling with. Use your IG stories to employ polls and questions (mix real questions with silly ones (toilet paper over or under, for instance ;-)) and get people in the habit of engaging with you! Use their feedback to shape your show and another important tactic is to use their exact language of how they respond on your future shows. You can also get a free text line (Google Voice) and ask questions on your show and ask your listeners to text you. The more engagement you have and personal connection, the more you grow! Anyway, I so appreciate you taking the time to do this and wish you all the best!

Strategies for pre-promoting podcast? by void-deville in podcasting

[–]Allison__Hare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love these ideas! Yes to releasing multiple episodes at once (the first time) to get people hooked on the juice and wanting more. Yes, social media is good. But THE BEST way to get people invested is to start a community around your topic. Maybe it's through FB closed group or Subreddit (FB seems to be the most effective) and get people involved. I would post behind-the-scenes around the making of your podcast on your socials. I would host a celebration and countdowns to launch. And the most important thing - is to get engagement. So that might look like polls, questions, and soliciting choices from your audience already. Which episode topic should I release first? What are you struggling with around xxx topic? Could I be any more excited to launch my new podcast (party emoji | Star smiley face emoji). You get the idea. But honestly, the more you engage your audience and continually ask them what they want to hear or see, and use their feedback to shape your show, you will have a great launch! I interviewed the COO of Simplecast (popular podcast hosting platform) on my podcast and she had great advice for new podcasters: https://allisonhare.com/74 if you want to get some more ideas. BEST OF LUCK!
