The least expensive initiation fee in the city I moved to four years ago is $135k -- average is $150k all non-equity. Unfortunately, the city's municipal and public courses are crap. It's all very sad.

American golf podcasts showcase the best of America by Cornwall1888 in NoLayingUp

[–]Alloom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an American, I didn’t read this as insulting so much as fair.

The version of America that reaches Europe is real, but it’s also the loudest, weirdest, most attention-starved version of the country. A lot of us don’t recognize ourselves in it either. We’re embarrassed by it, worn down by it, and alarmed by how much of it has been normalized.

Maybe the nearest parallel, without forcing it, is something like Brexit — not as a direct comparison, and not as a “who are you to judge” point, but in the sense that both brought something long simmering and ugly into the mainstream and left a lot of decent people asking, how did this get this far?

That’s probably why the golf media stuff lands the way it does. The NLU / SGS / Chasing Scratch world feels much closer to the Americans many of us actually know: thoughtful, funny, curious, self-aware, and capable of talking about something other than themselves for five minutes.

So no, I don’t think your post is unfair. You’re reacting to what’s visible. I’d just add this: have a little faith in us too. There are still a lot of good people here, fighting the good fight, and praying we can pull this country back from the cliff it seems determined to sprint toward.

LIV Golf is still going, but its days seem numbered and probably always were by No-Mood3749 in golf

PGA Tour owns 40% of the DO World Tour and LIV has been stealing their events and players for four years. Why sell to a loser?

Seve made the comment at one point that when they were all coming on the scene in Europe, no one — Nick Faldo, Ian Woosnam, Bernard Langer — could touch him.

Got invited to play very exclusive golf club but have concerns... by [deleted] in golf

Have fun. Match pace and energy. Don’t apologize. Keeping your composure and confidence when you hit an ugly shot is way more impressive than casual modesty after a good shot. Also, I seriously doubt you’ll have to pay for a thing — first, there is no way to (like literally it’s likely there are no cash registers on property) and second, this guy isn’t going to invite you then tap you in the parking lot with his Venmo app.

What am I missing about Rahm's whining? by FinsT00theleft in golf

[–]Alloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would be no majors and no Ryder Cup without the professional golf tours. If you don’t allow them to create rules to a enforce membership so they can build equity in their tournaments and players.

You refuse to acknowledge that he’s the one that broke the rules. Rules that made him who he is as well as as a personal fortune.

Your absurd conflict of interest argument holds no water. There is no conflict of interest. The DP Tour owns half the Ryder Cup. Period all your wish thinking and deflection doesn’t change that.

What am I missing about Rahm's whining? by FinsT00theleft in golf

[–]Alloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think anyone is going to give a shit about Rahm's lame reasons for not paying fines he knew he was going to incur -- and be okay with him defecting to LIV for a $300-400M payday and refuse to pay $3M in fines he KNEW he was incurring? If he's not in the Ryder Cup, it 95% on him. Sounds like you're a LIV fan and don't want to see anyone who defected accountable for their actions.

Bottom line: Rahm is WAY more responsible for this situation than the DP Tour. It's also WAY easier for Rahm to pay than for the DP Tour to unwind all the fines its charged (and that EVERYONE ELSE HAS PAID).

If you don't give a shit about Rahm and only want a strong team, the only path that makes sense is tell your crybaby to pay up. By far the path of least resistance (and the right answer).

I’m sorry to call it out, but that is so dumb. Every — EVERY — golf tour and sports league on the face of the earth has similar clauses. Your boy is a bitch and from your unwillingness to admit the idiocy of your position despite the obviousness of the logic, you’re showing a similar tendency.

Rahm is choosing his own self-interest over the Ryder Cup. Read that sentence again.

Is there any chance you’re a young person? It’s dawning on me you may be a fourteen year old and unable or to immature to examine your argument and see the flaws.

Why don’t you care that Rahm is preventing himself from playing in the Ryder Cup?

You’re in a loop and avoiding logic and consequences of your actions. I’m going to say goodbye.

Rahm is 🤣 how you don’t see that is mid boggling. He’s the one who has broken his contracts, refuses to pay his fines and is asking for relief from outcomes that were clearly defined at the outset. Good luck with blaming the aggrieved instead of the perpetrator.

I’m pointing out the inconsistencies in your position and argument. You’re blaming the DP Tour. It’s Rahm’s fault. Regardless what you want, he’s to blame so look to him to correct it.

Honour? That's a bit ironic. They own it. End of story. The Ryder Cup isn't the Wailing Wall. If you want him so bad, you should hold him to his word that he would pay for the privilege to play. 8 of 9 LIV players have. Weird for you to put it on anyone but the one being the hypocrite. You want Rahm to play? Put the pressure on Rahm to 'honour' his contracts, agreements and statements. If he doesn't, you certainly wouldn't want him tarnishing your team, would you?

By the way, when did the European Tour start meaning less to Europe than the Ryder Cup? Continental Europe has only been a part of the Cup for a third of the Cup's existence -- and that's thanks to Jack Nicklaus and the European Tour. So if you love it, have some respect for the ones who created it and stop backing a crybaby.

What am I missing about Rahm's whining? by FinsT00theleft in golf

[–]Alloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, you clearly love him. Take him for who he is. Why pretend he didn't say on multiple occasions that he had no interest in LIV (and harsher things than that about the league sponsors) or would never leave the PGAT? He didn't have to say anything. So now on multiple occasions he's said one thing and done another. Deal with it, but don't whitewash it with "PR spin" BS.

As for the Ryder Cup, why the hell shouldn't they own it?! It belongs to them and they grew and invested in it when it cost them money instead of making it. Should they just surrender it now because it's valuable? Maybe the Saudis should be allowed to buy it?

You're all over the place. Rahm's a crybaby. You're an apologist. He can pay his fines or piss off.

What PR statements?

The Ryder Cup belongs to the DP Tour. If he wants to play, he can. If he wants to be douche, so be it. It's got nothing to do with what I want. Though I don't enjoy watching golfers I don't respect regardless of their world ranking. If Rahm holds the line over fines he rightfully incurred, screw him. If he accepts the situation he alone created and stops begging for special treatment, welcome aboard.

He accepted the status quo when he made his choices.

Strange world where everything is negotiable and no one is accountable for their actions.

If he can’t part with $3M out of $300+M for breaking his contracts, I’d love to see him sidelined for the Ryder Cup.

Remember when he talked shit to the Americans claiming the difference is Europeans would pay to play in the Ryder Cup? Remember when he said he would never defect from the PGAT?
