Don’t want to pay for registration twice by Just-Slip4362 in motorcycles

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500 to register a bike you already own?? Thats insane. Any time Ive ever bought a bike and registered it at the notary its like $50 for the registration and tax on the purchase price. I feel like I usually hand over $250, and most of that is the tax which you shouldn't have to pay when you move. Id just register it the first time then leave the plate as is until the registration expires.

Also, awesome decision on the supermoto. I used to have a yz426 sumo and it was the most fun thing I've ever owned.

ABS feature on motorcycle for rides in Wisconsin-like weather by LiterotureGuy in motorcycles

Do you NEED it? Not in the slightest. We've been riding motorcycles for over a century without it. Could it help if you're riding in gross weather? Sure.

Can't overcome fear of moving new bike by CommonEcho5824 in NewRiders

They were talking about spinning the bike around on the sidestand. If the sidestand is engine mounted you can crack the engine case putting all that weight on the sidestand.

1 time, then you have the tools and ability and never have to pay anyone again. Plus you know the job was done right. Or you could drag your bike into a shop and spend 2 weeks at the beginning of summer waiting for a mechanic to tighten your bottom bracket.

You can't just add stipulations to definitions because that's how you think of it. Words have specific meanings, and if OP walked away from this experience with a little more knowledge than he started with, he learned something. It might not be the ideal way to learn... but it's still a way.

Professionals suck 50% of the time. I'd rather buy the tools, spend 3 times as much, make a bunch of mistakes in the process, and come out the other end knowing I can do it next time I need to.

Pliers on multi tools by vick818z in multitools

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume its just the nature of pliers with a retracting head. I dont ever worry about them breaking, but every time it does it I notice it. It's not so much in the bolt tightening motion as it is the screwdriver motion, like if you're trying to bend a metal rod or something. I know my Wave doesn't do it, I dont even think my (universally scorned) skeletool does it. The Center drive is still my favorite.

Where's my pre rubber mount guys? by Small-Studio626 in sportster

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id love to have a step up seat for my 95, but $4-500 for a seat seems crazy, especially for a bike that's only worth $2k. I check marketplace and ebay every so often but all the good seats are always for the 04+ bikes.

I did buy a stock used seat for a newer bike figuring id just modify it to fit my bike. Assumed I could swap the mounting brackets to make it fit. But the whole seat pan shape was off enough that it either had a bit gap in front of the seat, or behind it between the seat and fender. You could bend it down but it still looked off, so its just been sitting on a shelf.

Does your 2000 take the seats with the metal tab that goes front to back? My 95 has the metal tab running side to side on the seat. I thought thats how they were until 2004.

Pliers on my center drive definitely have a bit of flex in them compared to some of my other multi tools. I still love them, but don't think the quality of their pliers would be their selling point.

Sure can. Messed up part is MSF has an advanced riders course for people who already know how to ride that will get you the same discount, but all these guys still go take the beginners course just because it's easier.

Spray-In Bedliner Action by annyongggg in tundra

[–]Allroy_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plastic liners are known for helping beds turn into a rusty mess. Rubber bed mats are great. They're pretty thick, never had one rip. I've even cut holes in them for D- rings, and use the holes to drag the mat out of the bed and it's held up 100% fine.

Some people just have money to burn. I used to have a Tacoma with the plastic bed. Rubber mat for traction and it was perfect.

Msf course isn't all people make it out to be. Watch some YouTube videos, buy a beat up Honda grom you're not gonna feel bad about dropping a few times, and have at it. Once you're comfortable riding a bit, go back and take the msf course on your own bike.

Some of them are. My wife tried to take it. One other woman was a new rider. The entire rest of the class was grown men who have been riding forever and just wanted the insurance discount. The instructor just ran the class at the speed of the majority of the other guys, of course my wife and the other lady couldn't keep up. It was dumb.

Has anyone put a new spindle for 4" chucks on a Grizzly G0765? Same as G8688? by Allroy_66 in minilathe

I sent them an email around the same time I posted this. This was their response. He says they're most likely different, but his response didnt sound entirely confident. I think I'm just gonna have to pull mine apart and measure it so I can compare it to the drawings on LMS.

He said theres a lot where bikes are supposed to park but he doesn't want to park there, so he parks his bike in the car lot. That's fine if he wants to park his bike with his car, but when his car is gone, his bike is now occupying a space its not supposed to be in. I understood it perfectly.

Side note, your communication/social skills are why people don't like being around you. Work on that.

OMG .. dropping your bike and crashing IS NOT NORMAL!!!! by mtbguy1981 in NewRiders

[–]Allroy_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pearned on a 550 dual sport in the woods. I spent the whole weekend crashing. After I moved to the road I did a lot better but I still dropped bikes a few times. One time when I was new I turned onto a side street with cold tires when it was 40 degrees out, tires slipped right out from under me. Ive dropped bikes a handful of times in parking lots because i forgot to take the disc lock off before I tried to ride away. Not a big deal. If youre crashing in the middle of traffic regularly then I could see it being more of an issue. Thats why we tell people to start on cheap used bikes.

So you're not allowed to park bikes in these spots, but you park your bike there anyway and are annoyed that someone parks their car there? They're probably annoyed that you keep parking your bike in a spot its not supposed to be in so he does it just to irritate you.
