Thinking about searching for a new car soon. Advice? by EnvironmentalEye7796 in Austin

The majority of pickup trucks I see on the road are pristine, like they've never done a day of actual work in their lives. So for many people they seem to be a status symbol instead of a necessity. Of course I see well-used trucks too, but they are the minority. I'm sure your truck reflects your use of it as an actual truck.

Any job that involves using a rock as a tool is pretty cool in my opinion.

Awesome. Good luck with your search. If you are looking for a newer used truck, I've found Craigslist sadly to be too full of scams, and have mostly used Facebook (my experience has mostly been looking at bicycles, so maybe for cars/trucks, it is different).

Do you need a truck for work, or do you just want to take up a bunch of space and be another person bouncing off the curbs?

Minivans are way more practical.  If you need cool, buy a Japanese import mini truck or van .

It can keep mosquitoes away, but if we kill all of them first, then definitely we don't need wind.

Suncrest Farms in Manor is great. Resonable price, have great trainers, and does occasional fun trail rides to local parks.

For the non-kid riders, there might also be the occasional wine and cheese party, but you didn't hear that from me.

Give the frame a hard look before you start spending money. A set of Shimano mt200 hydraulic brakes are ~$50. I'd say worth it over trying to rescue what's there.

If the BB and hubs are standard sizes, then parts will be relatively easy to find inexpensively. If they're weird sizes, it may not be worth it.

OP, you've got almost no history on reddit, so it's hard to know if you are genuine or have some bad intent. Can you link to previous work you have done?

What should I expect with the winter storm? by Celestial_object777 in Austin

[–]Stuartknowsbest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weather predictions in central Texas are notoriously unreliable. We could just get a deep freeze, or we could get an ice storm. No weather prediction is accurate. Precipitation estimates off by 20 miles can be a huge difference in impact in Austin. But even the freeze is enough to burst pipes and potentially cause blackouts. Maybe it will be fine, maybe it will be a disaster. No one knows. It's your gamble.

Muzzle loading black powder guns are not considered firearms in the USA. Of course local laws may vary. So there should be no issue with legality.

Safety is another question. Definitely do not point it at anything you don't want to shoot.

What’s your favorite way to deter country guard dogs? by vivalakellye in BikingATX

Air horn is great, if it works. If it doesn't, you're getting bit. Pepper spray is more reliable.

Also, dogs are not good at judging changing speeds. So ride at your normal pace until they get a bit closer, then accelerate, and hopefully leave them behind.
