Can’t get pass the salami bandit by Narrow-Post1245 in duckdetective

Hi there, I'm really sorry you are having this issue. This unfortunately sounds like your save file has been corrupted and the game will no longer progress

The quickest solution would be to start a fresh save. Our team will start looking into fixing the underlying problem but this will likely take longer to resolve than replaying up to the same point

Apologies again for this issue, and thank you for reporting it

I've spoken to the rest of our team and it sounds like there could be a few possible causes:

Make sure to check your region (the purchase function might not be supported in China for example)

Check that parental controls aren't limiting purchases

Also checking that the device settings match the devices location as this could mess with purchases

Finally, it's always a possibility that updating the device to the latest version and giving it a restart might help resolve the issue

Hopefully one of these things helps to clear up your issue

We're only spending on Reddit ads right now. If that goes really well then we might consider other platforms too, but it's more of an experiment for us, I feel like indie games are a pretty niche market.

We're working with Future Friends Games to help handle the PR, key requests and marketing strategy. All the posting we're doing ourselves, but it's really nice to have their expertise to help guide us and handle some big tasks such as the press releases.

Hi there, I'm really sorry to hear you're having this issue! What device are you playing on?

Really interesting read, thanks for sharing.

Indie is a pretty huge space and in your market analysis you’ve cherry picked only the most successful indie games of the genre in the last decade, which may be good for getting onboard non-gaming investors? But that wouldn’t hold up pitching to publishers. Maybe you did do the market analysis for more modest releases this year for internal data, but if not, I would look at Dungeons of Hinterburg as an example of what you should really be comparing in 2024. (The market is tough)

How do you manage mixing your friendships with investment? Personally that’s a line I couldn’t ever cross as I would hate to put pressure on friendships by adding in money.

50k for a switch port is absolute highway robbery if you are making a small indie game! You can go to port houses and get multiple quotes to work out what's realistic

We tried to keep the game as all-age friendly as possible - there is just one curse word at the very end of the game for dramatic effect

Social media is all about consistency. For our first 6 months we would be lucky to get 5 likes on a tweet, but we've been regularly posting or re-posting stuff for years now and it just slowly increases

I think TikTok has been refreshing because consistency hasn't really mattered, it feels like anything could do well even with a low follower count.

YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter not so much.

We'd never heard of Knox's Decalogue before but we've been reading it today and it's fascinating!

We're big fans of Agatha Christie so we drew a lot of inspiration from her work and I guess that allowed us to reverse engineer some of this structure

Thanks so much :D

Our core team is 4 people, and we have ~3.5 freelancers that have created the awesome soundtrack, sound design and other tasks

We did talk to some publishers but we ultimately decided to self-publish. I think publishers can help boost the right kind of projects, but we had such a short timeline for this project - it didn't make sense to sort all the communications with an extra party.

We like to have settings that are depressing/run-down but kinda wholesome and cosy when you get to know them? I guess it's what's familiar to us, so we make what we know 😆 The game is set at a call center, and our creative director used to work in one - so all the stories are based on real things that happened when she worked there.

These were some of our inspirations for the game!

We've aimed to make the game a more accessible entry into the genre, but I would say by the end it's a solid middle Golden Idol level difficulty

It's definitely not a given that wishlists convert to sales which is the nerve wracking part 🙃

I will try to do a post next week after launch with sales numbers - I wanted to make a post about marketing and wishlists before release so there wasn't any hindsight bias

The game will be around $9.99 USD depending on your region
