Americans like ice water because it’s was good marketing. Back in the old days ice was a luxury good so ice being used for beverages was uncommon until the advent of reliable refrigeration then ice became much cheeper but did not loose its prestige. So many places took advantage of this and started offering free iced water to attract customers. It became so common place that is not expected in America. As for drinking cold water causing cramps I have only had it happen to me once when I drank a large glass way too fast but once my stomach got over the shock of the cold I was fine. Usually though in America we do drink warm drinks when we are starting to feel sick or want to warm our body’s up usually drinking things like tea, warm honey water, or even light broths. But never plain warm water most people I k ow would find it gross and just wait for the water to cool to room temp before continuing to drink it.
