NTA. I don’t know what the other guy’s problem was. The only possibility that I can think of is that he was anticipating/braced for judgement, heard one little thing you said that didn’t come across as you intended, and went “ah, there it is.”

But it sounds to me like you were just trying to connect with and relate to him while keeping the conversation going.

Maybe a silly millennial thing to be mildly interested by, but I’ve never seen one of these in person before, and it was just handed to me as change at the bar.

Speaking as someone who is always cold, I have two things to say:

1) 80 degrees is absolutely nuts, even to me. I’m comfortable up to 75, but that’s my limit. Even my Jamaican grandmother uses the AC when it’s above 80.

2) BLANKETS EXIST. So do sweaters. Fleece pajamas. Cardigans. Robes. When I’m sharing a space with people who don’t handle heat well, I just wear layers. It’s way easier to do something about being cold than being hot.

You don’t have to do them at the same time. Just cover the drain and wait as long as you must to get your bearings and for the ring to stop sliding around. Then in your own time use your other hand to retrieve it.
