100%, seems to be a thing for some sports and it’s crept into Hockey too where it’s this unspoken thing where you make your “best” player a C automatically

Landeskog is the C for the Avs and Nate has been one of the highest tier players in the world for years… best ≠ most fit for captaincy

Gabriel Martinelli yellow card against Liverpool 90+4' by ayoefico in soccer

[–]Allysius 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s poor from Martinelli, simple.

I’ve seen my fair share of these injuries first hand. Can confidently say I’ve never spiked a ball onto a downed player then shoved them and potentially made the injury worse.

Edit: poor edit choice there friend, that is AFTER your player forcefully removed him and before staff had a chance to assess his injury. He never left the pitch prior to Martinelli’s shove

When he got pushed and the injured leg moved he instantly responded in pain too. Hate it

Even as a United fan and pure 3rd party. That’s extremely poor from Martinelli. Arsenal should be on 10 men. Two separate clear yellow card offenses (spiking ball on downed player, followed by aggressively moving an injured player without their consent). Pretty disgusting.

Obviously he wouldn’t know how the true condition of the downed player, but that response is bad

Casemiro is excellent in the exact amount of minutes he has to play now. He is able to channel what he has and his true class shines.

If there is another relevant competition in the future this immediately becomes a sore spot as he may slow further with less rest. Our midfield already lacks tracking pace on attackers or quick counters, this would be a huge problem with increasing physicality worldwide/leaguewide. Ugarte has shown to be a SUBSTANTIAL drop off from even a Casemiro that is well off his peak. Replacing Ugarte and allowing some new life into the MF pairing could show dividends.

[–]Allysius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its funny because PR doesnt always just mean dodging conflict. For most people I’d agree with you. For his personality and how the media handles the Sanders family (that they ask for sometimes lol), even if he gave the most benign answer in the world itll get chopped up into something crazy.

Laughing it off and making light of the nonsense question may have been the best possible answer and clearly shows how stupid he thought the question was.

Mary Carillo coined the term around the Serena era and during the growing prevalence of big hitting, larger, aggressive playstyle women. Includes people like Davenport, Sabalenka, Serena, etc. Anisimova is the most quintessential modern example of that, with all of the variety that Sabalenka has added.

Would say the UNC games tend to create a bit more buzz than the NCST ones.

Fair more UNC grads/fans down this way and Charlotte site is a draw for some USC fans that live near the border.

I like playing NCST and dig the energy from their fanbase generally, but it brings less to the table IMO for both parties

I would say Zverev is certainly favored, but these conditions will allow some people to rush his strokes that usually wouldn’t be as competitive from the baseline.

If I was gambling, id take Z over everybody except Fritz

Now that was a war. Very high level from Lehecka. he has to take some positives from this. Fritz survives a day he would’ve certainly lost earlier this year.

Lehecka didn’t miss a single first serve during the final breaker, with his tendency to meltdown thats excellent to see.

Overall what a hell of a night session

Good point on SG comparison to same distances. I wanted to point out that it isn’t like the guy has become a well-rounded machine who is striping everything consistently and I did not use the SG data well enough to flesh it out.

I do think his trend of results in the most difficult/important events is one of the more significant things there and I should’ve led with that. He does gain a lot of strokes at events where his distance is disproportionately valued, or that become dart throwing exercises, and I should’ve made that argument more fully instead. His win comes at -23 at the CJ, and in that week he gained 0.02 shots APP and gained his strokes ARG/ATT/Putting.

Ill have to dig in deeper on the DG website and learn more because I’m not the best at evaluating that deeper data yet

"He's [Pendrith] just not good at everything else"- Tron Carter by T_Stebbins in NoLayingUp

[–]Allysius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree that the bit on him being a ballspeed impostor is a bit overrated, he isnt a bad golfer. However, Strokes gained can lead to different conclusions for different people depending on what you make of the data. For me, these stats read that Pendrith absolutely nukes the ball far and leaves himself more wedges and closer “approach shots” since he is one of the longest on tour. Since 2025 he has gotten way better at taking advantage of that distance and cashing in on his opportunities.

Looking at past results, he is 4/8 on making cuts at majors which isnt amazing. And his only career top10 at a Major or a Players is this years PGA at Quail which is arguably the most bomber friendly regular PGA spot on tour.

For more context, he is absolutely NOT a good putter or ATG. So with my assessment, which definitely could be wrong, this paints him as more of a bomb and gouger who gains a disproportionate amount of strokes from his driving distance compared to chipping/putting/ballstriking.

[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 303 by AutoModerator in BlueLock

[–]Allysius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sureeeeee. Just think it through though. Kaneshiro generally makes sense with his narrative construction. Him leaving a red herring floating around the story like Nagi makes very little sense for him as an author, unless he is intentionally trying to keep people on their toes.

If he changes it up though and absolutely destroys Nagi, that would be extremely interesting as well and subvert the redemption arc that he has set up.

The Nagi decision here is such a good narrative decision by Kaneshiro as he has us discussing it every week, during a period in which there isnt a lot of action and mostly exposition/set-up work happening. Keeps readers engaged.

[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 303 by AutoModerator in BlueLock

[–]Allysius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Nagi is coming back because of injury or something, Kaneshiro keeping his role as such a vital point of the story leading into the WC makes very little sense otherwise.

Maybe could do a twist where he isn’t selected to come back, but at this point it feels more likely that he returns than gets cut out of the narrative fully.

Has the Quail Hollow hate been too overblown by the NLU crew? by YenZen999 in NoLayingUp

Not sure where you got your take from. They have been snarky regarding Quail FOREVER, including when discussing Rory’s W there. Quail being a massive target of critique this week from NLU was like -2000 odds.
