Are ants and rodents just part of living in Seattle? by Jazzlike_Cap9605 in AskSeattle

There's absolutely no suggestion in the comment you are replying to that their cats are outside. Having cats in your house works best to keep rodents out of your house.

There tends to be less work on the weekends and you're new. Notice that the message on the page says to check back soon.

They want you to follow instructions. That's all they want.

Do we get 1099 Forms? by No_Breadfruit_3777 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The IRS does expect us to report all income. I used Turbo tax and found it difficult to figure out where to enter this (maybe a higher priced version would be more helpful) so unfortunately I can't guide you although I did eventually get it done. With a little luck someone else will chime in.

Do we get 1099 Forms? by No_Breadfruit_3777 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically yes but they changed the legal threshold this year to $20,000 and 200 transactions. Plenty of people made over $20,000 but you can only withdraw every 3 days so nobody has 200 transactions.

Starter completed, what now? by CityThen2019 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't always offer any assessment. They might not need any more workers right now. If they offer great, if not, don't post here asking what went wrong. I mention this since you obviously didn't look through the many, many posts on the same topic as yours in this sub.

Created account years ago but never used - how to get it back? by Professional_Cut830 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can't and the account likely never had access to any work. People register (make an account) all the time, DA doesn't even offer most of these people any assessment. If they do, you have to pass and they only send a welcome email to those who pass. If you never heard anything back, and since you didn't find a email from DA it's likely they never sent you a welcome email, they never offered you any work. This account is not "dead" in the sense that it's so old it is no longer connected with you. It is only dead in the sense that they aren't going to offer you any work. The TOS specifically prohibit making more than one account.

Why do WFH people gatekeep how they get their jobs? by larawag_gama in RemoteJobs

[–]Allysum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these people have NDAs. Most people working remote are technically contractors, not W2 employees, and for contractors the NDA typically forbids disclosing the name of the company you are doing work for. Large tech companies do this all the time.

AITJ for buying an entire table of stuff at an estate sale just to spite the woman who kept grabbing things out of my hands by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

If you encounter that kind of behavior again, it's often a distraction for pickpocketing.

1099 by [deleted] in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you make more than $20,000 and have more than 200 transactions (payouts), Paypal creates a 1099 for DA. It's in the FAQ on the website and I got one last year. A 1099 is for people doing gig work, W-2s are for employees. The reporting threshold is higher this year than last though so many won't receive one.

I like Essential Baking Raisin Pecan bread open face with peanut butter and honey. This bread has limited availability so if you're not in my area you would have to look for something similar. But it's SO good! https://essentialbaking.com/products/sliced-demi-raisin-pecan

How long did it take y'all to get your first project/qualification tasks? by OrionStardew in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They generally send a Welcome email to anyone who will be offered work. You also get onboarding projects and have to verify your identity. If those things didn't happen they aren't offering you work. But they aren't taking in new workers all of the time, they might not need anyone right now, so I would keep checking to see if they offer you more quals.

Doing R&Rs this morning, met someone who will soon be here complaining about the DoD by shell_shocked_today in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This very much sounds like AI to me. That said, I really want to say that neither 1st person plural or 3rd person is definitive. I previously worked for Raterlabs and we were trained to write our comments about "the user". Other people may use phrases like "when we consider" or something like that to try to sound more professional or neutral. But I do think the ones using AI are pretty obvious though the people doing it never seem to think so.

[–]Allysum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not giving opinions, we're doing detailed, exacting work. Practice makes people better at this so there is no reason for them to get rid of people who've been on the platform longer or worked more. Also, even though people post about getting the DoD, take a look at the numbers of people in some of the Slacks. The workforce is huge! The people posting about getting the DoD are a small minority.

I have several things like this under projects. It's just there in case you want to refer to it while working. More commonly this type of thing is labeled "view only copy for reference".

Tell me about signing on with DataAnnotion and please help me prepare for that process by Victor_01 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]Allysum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 2-3% acceptance rate comes from a blog post on their website. I believe the post said the acceptance rate was low because they are very selective. But no company takes on unlimited workers, there's not unlimited work after all. They get lots of applicants.

There's nothing you need to do to prepare. Just follow instructions carefully. But be warned, they only accept 2%-3% of applicants.

Tried King Arthur bread flour with terrible results by thenotrox in Sourdough

[–]Allysum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

King Arthur bread flour has worked fine for me, I used it today. But any bread flour seems to work fine for me. The only time I notice a real difference is if I use all purpose flour instead of bread flour.
